vj One of the nice things about this conversation was that it was a escape from the phobes and their obsession that intruded on every thread. You even have active threads on which to pursue it http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbtoday/F2148565?thread=5541090&skip=0&show=20 I suggest you take it there. Personally I don't give a fig and so its adieu from me.

LT debate: I am not really interested in a rematch over this in this conversation (for me this conversation was a bit of an escape from the 'phobes.

So I am going to bow out and leave this conversation thread to you and vj.

Actually rg started this thread not me. But I am not really interested in the 985th reprise of the whole Evil Empire thing which is why I am bowing out

oh, I didnt realise that! on my screen it always comes up as "Message Centre for Boredbyfour" when i enter, so i will apologise to both of you, for my misunderstanding just now on that.

I did join in (and viewed) here just occasionally, but usually commented just to add to an existing topic you had "on the go" rather than start something new. Occasionally, there was something unrelated to the current conversation that i wanted to share with/ ask one or both of you, and not wanting to do this in a more "public" area, it was perhaps a techie query or something (not politics). I was aware i was more of a guest here so didnt intrude too frequently.

You are quite right of course. This is no place to discuss the LTR.

"... Chichester has said he will not resign as an MEP but will 'clear' his name...Chief Whip, Den Dover mentioned in the story has been sent for an early bath though it apparently nothing to do with the £750000 payment from his expenses to his family..."

Perhaps Cameron has ambition to be permanently in opposition? There is potential danger for Gordon Brown too, unless he knows for sure his boys and girls are clean, as sure as eggs are eggs if there is any wrongdoing it will come out. My guess is any mud is being squirreled away for 2010.

Part of the problem here is that it isn't always crystal clear that rules have been broken.

vj it's not that I minded you intruding or taking part in the conversations. I don't even mind the discussion of the HofL or the LT in the way rg

But I think this conversation thread has always been an area where rg and I had 'a bit of the crack' bout whatever comes as distinct from our serious discussion on 'Democracy'

I just didn't want to see a thread which I enjoy turned into another phobes v philes debate.

Feel free to participate any time though you will have to put up with two people who are both burner freaks.

You could aways start LT conversation of your own.smiley - winkeye

I think we have cracked how to do it.

At last some good news. I'm pleased you are finally going to get your just reward for the per diem. One thing I did notice was that Peta disappeared at about the same time as you were put on probation. I think the whole thing is nonsense and wouldn't have happened on the TMB. The hosts were used to us there. The Kipling is melanchony.

Hi rg

No discussion: I don't mind the discussion lite that we have on the LT and the HofL.

I just couldn't face another heavy duty debate on the Evil Empire .

I don't mine vj dropping by.

One thing that puzzles me, and puzzled O_L, is how the advocacy of the wholesale slaughter of pols doesn't get you put into durance vile.

I am a bit busy at the mo trying to decide what will be boxer 2.

I once came across a remark the said that BMW had lost it way a bit with current models. Since I suspect it will be my last one (with the possible, exception of the trike conversion) I want to make sure it's the right one.

Pretty much decided on a big (1000cc=)tourer.

I thought you were on gardening duty.

Ubuntu: I am a bit confused about the Radeon drivers. If you were getting more than 600x800 resolution wouldn't that suggest you already had the open source driver already installed.

I'm familiar with a 'restore point' in Windows though I haven't come across the facility in Ubuntu (yet). Believe it or not I only had to make two pages of notes to fully restore the system in comparison to seven the first time round. Last night (using your last link) I did manage to get the ATI installer to work. I went wrong at one of the penultimate steps. I now think it was because the code was Dell specific. The funny thing is the new system appears stable on the open source driver (I agree there had to be something installed on the machine prior to ATI to exceed the 'low' 600x800 resolution).

Before I started to look for a video driver I had already tried to circumvent various levels of protection. I don't think this helped. Also second time round I streamlined all the procedures so as not to add 'fat'. Gardening duties ducked – SO not well and needs looking after...

Are all bent MPs and MEPs Tory? The recent news suggests so.

Chichester: Had realised he was the sailor's son.

Cameron: Appointing a major 'trouser' to clean up trousering amongst Tory MEPs.

Apparently there is another one some woman paying her nanny as a secretarial assistant.

Brown: might be in Westminster but the article seemed to suggest that Labour MEPs are required to be more transparent.

Picked up something last night while listening to a feed. Apparently the German MEPs are doing a solo end-run to clean things up. They are not popular.

Must dash I a being dispatched to pick up some 'stuff'. Not the kind of 'stuff' that can be accommodated on a 'boxer' so i'll have to use the Landrover. My cup runneth over smiley - sadface

The problem you had was that you 'attacked' a host. This is far worse than attacking a politician. Politicians and Jonathan Ross expect to be 'attacked'. (Have you not noticed the guns outside parliament)? If a host makes themselves apparent – be polite. Make like you've just seen a vision of a blessed lady. NEVER ANSWER BACK.

I wish I had your 'problem' of deciding which bike to buy. Personally if I were buying a BMW it would have to have horizontally opposed cylinders and be the lightest model they made in that configuration that could still 'carry' a set of panniers. I wouldn't go for lots of plastic because I'm personally not a speed freak. Carry in inverted commas because the whole look of the must be right. Also I wouldn't go for the 'Ewan and Charlie' aluminium box look as that would be so passé.

Gardenning is being avoided. I'm just off to cook tea now SO is up and about. You are right about the open source driver. It must have been there all the time!

It doesn't look good for Cameron I agree. If Labour has been careful to make sure its MEPs all behave (I missed that bit of the article) then very good.

The woman case goes back a few years. All the same she should pick up her scrubbing brush - the graffiti's under the bridge. Is this on a par with the Labour woman trying to claim a grand or two for a pergola? I'm pleased the German MEPs are trying to clean things up for us taxpayers. I personally think it would make sense to move the EU parliament to Berlin (shutting down Strasburg and Brussels).

No I don't want to drive either.

Hi vj

//oh, I didnt realise that! on my screen it always comes up as "Message Centre for Boredbyfour" when i enter, so i will apologise to both of you, for my misunderstanding just now on that.//

No apology necessary.

I think I have figured out how it works.

If we are registered in h2g2 we all have a Message Centre which is not quite the same as the 'My Conversations' area

I am involved in four conversations. This one, one with jankaas, the Democracy one, and one with Old_Leftie.

All four appear in my 'My Conversations' list (along with all the other conversations to which I am currently subscribing).

However only the first 3 show up on 'My Messages' list. If I click on the conversation with O_L then I am in old_lefties Message Centre even though I started the conversation.

As near as I can figure it it isn't *who* starts the thread that matters it's *where* it is started.

I started the conversation with O_L but I left the message in *his* personal space. (Which I got to by checking 'Who's Online' and clicking on him).

I think rg posted the first message in 'morning' but because the message was posted in *my* 'My Space' I 'own' the conversation

There is a way of starting a conversation in your own 'My Space' which is why I 'own' Democracy.

The 'My Friends' option may or may not be involved. I thought it was but I am not sure.

It may be if you want to post a message in someone's 'My Space' you have to declare them as a friend first.

Tues or Wed for me to.

Enjoy walk(s), hope back and SO improve and Ubuntu is complication free. A HofL day tomorrow, I believe.

Apparently Honda produce a shaft drive boxer.

All at sea? I'm just back though it will be some time before I'm in the land of the living. The weekend walks were very good though these seem an age ago now. I hope the wind picked up a bit and DB was able to strut her stuff. I saw a Honda with a horizontally opposed six this morning. I think they also do a four. Focus appears to have shifted to Ireland so far as the LT is concerned. The BBC was talking up a no vote at the weekend though Today this morning said fluctuating. Exciting or what? Ubuntu unloved these past few days as the garden finally gets some attention…

Morning rg

Not bad trip wind not particularly great but enough.

reward: Arrived so I can start looking. I have pretty much decided on a Series R 1150RT or 1200RT. I am slightly tempted by the K series 1200LT but that would mean abandoning the boxer layout.

Peta; I am not convinced there is a Peta. Fairly unconcerned about the Peta sanction A bit pathetic really and I am losing interest in the BBC boards.

The Old Issue: I hadn't see it as melancholic. It is more about refusal to accept authority simply because it is authority. I came to reading K quite late. Much more complex and much less jingoistic nationalist than I assumed.
