Hi again Bx4
Well done, as just said on the old referendum thread I'd better start writing some queries.
Bye for now.

VeeJay Posted Mar 3, 2008
you see I can join your discussion too!!!
Nothing much to say, apart from I see no posting yet from BB4 on the new EU debate!
better get out of here
(if i've gate crashed a private discussion.)

Hi BoredbyNine
You have not crashed a private conversation; you are very welcome to stay. The point of setting up this thread was because the 2007 referendum thread was shut down forcing Bx4 and me to continue the discussion on the EU LTR thread.
All of which is a long winded way of saying this is hopefully a place message board discussions can continue even after the BBC have closed the original thread.
Clear as mud?
I'm watching the new "I want a referendum thread" with interest though don't really have the time to participate at the moment.

Hi rg
Not sure this is the place to have the debate no quotes etc - more a contact point and for chat. Will let us identify semi-moribund referendum boards to continue our debate.
I don't think there going to be a shortage of those.
I don't know if you can do links here so here's one on trikes for aging bikers:

Nor will there be. I am not going to get sucked in.
//if I've gate crashed a private discussion.//
Nope though unless you are into 'burners' it may prove dull

Hi Bx4
Links do work! Also I like the Tardis smiley (if that's what it is). I agree with the moribund thread plan. This is a handy place to leave disconnected messages and signposts.
Time to try and fix the printer for SO.

It is the Tardis.
//I agree with the moribund thread plan//
Well we've got the one we're on, The later LT one the current one and no doubt we'll have one one the Irish referendum so I don't think well run out anytime soon.
//This is a handy place to leave disconnected messages and signposts.//
And to chat about burners and other bits of randomness.
I hadn't realised that yours was off the road. As to expenditure on chain and brake pads I suggest buying something for SO first.
//Time to try and fix the printer for SO.//
Another worthwhile strategy
I found this slightly depressing:

Especially when I realised that it was talking about a *younger* generation of baby boomers than mine.
Must go

"...It is the Tardis..."
Cool!
"...I don't think we'll run out any time soon..."
You are right I think the "middle" referendum thread will keep on trucking for now. It's super to have a "third place" in the event of another rash of shutdowns.
"...off the road. As to expenditure on chain and brake pads I suggest buying something for SO first..."
I smiled when I read this, I sort of got it right allowing SO to splurge last Saturday. Then I bought myself a new watch on Sunday and reminded her about the MoT, Service, chain, cogs?, brakepads? on Monday. The watch was a big mistake. Still I bought her a dress watch last summer though I guess that doesn't count?
"... Baby Boomer + Motorcycle..."
This looks interesting and I'll go back to it. Whilst trying to organise work on my bike I did stumble upon a site today which featured a fancy countdown to the new bike test in August. Well that's one thing we don't have to worry about.
Must fix printer before SO returns or I'll miss out on an opportunity to build up sympathy for keeping Rice Burner street legal.
Retirement
Bx4 Posted Mar 4, 2008
hi rg
//I think your retirement is something akin to my "relaxing" evenings and weekends.//
I'ts probably down to the fact that I enjoyed what I did and the euros are not to be sneezed at.......
//I hope your evening out went well?//
Yes visiting friends that the SO hasn't seen for a while.
//I earned mega brownie points by fixing it.//
A bit lucky though.
I am still in negotiations about boxer 2 with the SO but the costs is becoming clear.
Euros
rg Posted Mar 5, 2008
"…the euros are not to be sneezed at…"
Those Euros may prove very useful for Boxer 2!
"…friends that the SO hasn't seen for a while…"
My SO did a bit of this at the start of the week, it wiped her out, fortunately she is well on the mend and I'm thankful for your positive thoughts left on LTR1.
"…A bit lucky though…"
Yes, I'll take anything going these days.
"…the cost is becoming clear…"
I've sown the seeds through my buying spree, the whirlwind will descend soon. The doghouse awaits.
I have other matters to deal with before I can return to the MB. BDT
Euros
Bx4 Posted Mar 5, 2008
Morning rg
A scheduled test run at the moment in which i am not involved so briefly.
Boxer 2. I continue to be attracted to the R75 combo or trike though the euros may first have to be spent on a quad bike and SO transport over here.
Your SO. Glad to hear she's recovering.
Luck. I am sure Sun Tzu said something about it
Doghouse. Worth it to get on the road. I am missing it to.
Other matters. Me to. I thought it might be useful to summarise where we are at on our debate so I'll work on that
trike

.
'Morning Bx4 I see by the pair of cartoon eyes by your name you are on line.
I'm hoping for a sort of a test run on Friday when I have a loan machine whist RB is in dock. The Boxer trike in one of your links above was a smart looking machine with the advantage that it could be used equally well in GB or D.
SO has recovered enough to go shopping! You are right, getting back on the road with a fully working machine is a worthy goal. I'm forced to admit the chain wear issue has severely limited use this winter. I have ordered the best quality replacement.
I agree our debate has gone off in lots of different directions though by the same token I'm sure some aspects are at or near agreement or agreement to disagree.
Must go.

Test run: Ours failed. More poring over C++ code Deep joy.
Boxer 2. Still attracted to the R75 combo. Boxer trike when I am too decrepit for Boxer 1.
Chain wear: Not a problem I am familiar with.
Replacement. Definitely time to be planning to get mobile.
Agreement/disagreement. Indeed just thought it would be worthwhile trying to summarise current state of play. Will post at weekend.
Wonder if this thread has paging?

"...More poring over C++ code Deep joy..."
In my world the worst thing I pour over is a query. My C++ sympathies.
"... Still attracted to the R75 combo..."
LHD or RHD?
"...Chain wear: Not a problem I am familiar with..."
As I well know. On my side the chain is lighter and more efficient than shaft drive though this counts for nothing without proper maintenance
"...Will post at weekend..."
Will look forward to this. Feel free to post in chunks.

query
Bx4 Posted Mar 6, 2008
morning rg
query: Better a query than having to normalise your databases
C++: This was not intended to be part of my career arc. Still I will get to do some biology next week.
LHD/RHD Probably has to be RHD I don't think the car is interchangeable:
http://www.dropbears.com/m/models/bmw/r75tech.htm
Not a problem for boxer 2 though the Luftwaffe eye candy may be.
chunks: Don't think I will need to, it's intended more as a summary of where we are rather than an extension of the discussion
Paging. If none then we might need a slightly different strategy.
Anyhow

morning Bx4
"… normalise your databases…"
I know what it is and I'm glad I don't have to do it.
"…I will get to do some biology next week…"
This sounds like a plan
"…RHD I don't think the car is interchangeable…"
To be mainly used on our fair isle.
"…Not a problem for boxer 2 though the Luftwaffe eye candy may be…"
Yes I think lots of gears and drives could flip round by 180 degrees and still work, a custom bike builder and engineering shop would have to do the rest. The trike isn't as pretty though it's ambidextrous.
"…chunks: Don't think I will need to…"
I'm impressed by your efficient approach to this task.
"…Paging. If none then we might need a slightly different strategy…"
It may be possible to post a new message at the start of every week?
I did catch some of the parliament channel later on last night but they were back to PMQs rather than the referendum debate by then. PMQs are when the PM is asked one question and he gives the answer to the question he would have preferred to be asked. It doesn't make for good TV so I started to watch a daft French film instead.
