fords - number 1 all over heaven

My granny (mum's mum) had a stroke today. I didn't go to work because I knew I wouldn't be able to concentrate. Think she'll be okay though, they're keeping her in hospital overnight and she can still walk and talk, so that's a good sign. smiley - smiley However, I can't help but think the worst when I think that's how my papa (her husband) started going downhill - first the stroke, then the brain tumour....smiley - sadface

Thanks. smiley - smiley

I can't help but worry - this'll be the first Christmas without my granda who died early this year, and I can't help all these horrible thoughts going through my head about my granny. I'm sure she'll be fine, but I'm such a worrier sometimes.

We all worry about them at times, it's perfectly natural and understandable. I'm not going to say chin up and stiff upper lip cos that's not me, what I will say is if you need to vent just feel free.

If you told me 'chin up' anyway, I'd probably smack you in the nose cos I hate it when people say that smiley - tongueout

My gran also suffered a stroke a couple of years before she died. It can be difficult for the sufferer even if they largely recover because the stroke may have some long-term effects. In my gran's case she found it hard to use the right words when she was trying to speak and it was very frustrating for her as she knew what she wanted to say.

If you and your gran are close then she might need more attention from the people who love her. With any luck she'll make a good recovery and might even be largely back to her old self.

I know a guy at work who had a stroke a few years ago (before I knew him), and as far as I can see he's made a full recovery - I would never have known he'd had a stroke if he hadn't mentioned it. So smiley - dontpanic! smiley - smiley

I try not to, but I do worry as she's not been keeping to well recently and stuff. But they're only keeping her in overnight, which is a very good sign smiley - smiley

Thats is a good sign indeed.. your brain does funny things when you're getting older , and strokes are a lot more common than we'd like to think. Just because it meant bad things before doesn't mean again..so stop worrying! ..which i know right now isn't easy smiley - cuddlesmiley - cuddle I lost my nanna a few years ago,she gave them hell for years first though! the stubborn old coot!..positivity does wonderful things..my friend is off her ventilator now and i'd like to think part of that is down to me n a spot of witchyness.
Your granny will be fine i'm sure of it ..

Thanks guys smiley - smiley I'm kinda over the shock of it now, feeling a wee bit guilty I didn't go to work, but I know I'd have been useless there anyway...

Glad to hear about you friend doll - funnily enough, first thing I thought about when the alarm went off, other than 'oh no! Time to get up!' was your friend. smiley - smiley

As some one who has seen the three grandparents he knew all go in their own ways let me give you a smiley - cuddle I know exactly what you are going through.

I know it is hard and the first Christmas after any of them go is always a hard one. As said above don't worry about work, they must have some allowance for compassionate leave should a close relative and your granny would count as such has a major illness or dies. They will probably give you a lot of sympathy and understanding.
