NoJoPoMo for me
Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Nov 4, 2014
If you were writing it of your own volition, because you had something to say, fine. I'd be happy to listen to you. You're an interesting person.
If it's because some American somewhere once decided that everyone should write a blog post every day whether or not they felt the need, just for its own sake - nah...
If it's not spamming, it's flooding, which is just as annoying.

Well you'll never know now, will you?
And even I might run out of drivel to post after a few days. My life's not that exciting, and once I've run out of humblebrags I'll probably give up. Unless I invent an entirely fictitious alter ego.

Sorry, I don't read any of these things on principle. The whole concept annoys me. So it's nothing personal, anyway

I don't mind the concept. I don't even mind the daily posts. I just mind the flooded convo list and the many times other people post to these journal posts just to acknowledge that they've read the post.
It denies my Pavlovian reward. I see the bell-like indication of a new post in my convo list and expect to have something to read when I press the button.

If you're going to remove all NaJoPoMo participants from your Friends List for the month, it'd be more efficient to go through the list at A87842343 than to wait for journals to pop up. You could always make your statement in your own journal (as HN has done), or on the NaJoPoMo page itself.

Some random thoughts about your very interesting comments:
Yes, NaBloPoMo was invented in 2006 by an American blogger, inspired by another American invention, NaNoWriMo.
h2g2's version of NaBloPoMo could be organized differently. The event does not have to be organized so that it clutters up people's conversation lists. NaJoPoMo organizers and participants are for the most part experienced researchers who are familiar with h2g2's features and limitations. I like Mala's suggestion (or was it BG's?)
The word friend has the meaning of a contact on a social media website connotation. h2g2 is a forum in which the words friend and follower are subscribers to journals and entries. I'm tempted not to unsubscribe from friends for fear of hurting feelings that someone might have attached to the word friend. Even though that friend is cluttering up my conversation list.
I like BG's observation of convo list item as pavlovian reward. It is very much so.
This journal entry has gotten already 25 posts, eleven more than the journal entry about the wedding I officiated in which the bride was an h2g2 EG researcher and the "bible" was a leather-bound copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. An unexpected outcome here on a website Douglas Adams founded.

I think what turns the whole thing into a farce is people's tendency to leave a smiley to show they've read it. To me, it shows that people read it out of a sense of obligation, otherwise they wouldn't bother posting if they had nothing to say. They don't in regular journals.
I refuse to feel obligated to read pages and pages of content people feel obligated to write. It's ridiculous.

we're all different. I'd prefer people added to a single journal entry for the month, but I don't mind seeing lots of entries - I'm not sure they are fretting that I'm not leaving a comment in each of them.
This is where a "like" button would be useful. Leaving an emoticon in the journal is just a friendly gesture to say "yup, I've been here"
I wonder if it's really worth getting het up about? in pliny (and other skins) it is relatively easy just to unsub from convis.
horses for courses, or as they say on the interweb: YMMV
