Chez Nerd's cat population (3) now exceeds its human population (2). How will this change in the lap to cat ratio affect inter- and intra-species relationships?

Each lap has 2 legs, so lap space still (theoretically, at least) exceeds kitty numbers.

Are your cats like, ours, i.e., do they "fight" over prime lap space? Our cat-to-lap ratio is even (2:2) but they will occasionally fight over a particular lap.

Yes, psychocandy, they fight over lap space. is the bruiser with the mean left hook. will hiss but she doesn't fight back. Gus neither hisses nor fights, but neither will he move. He is also of the opinion that he and not my laptop belongs on my lap.

and Gus seem to get along better than any other combination.

I forgot that the lap sharing we had (5 cats, 4 laps, 2 of which belonged to people that didn't sit long enough to be worth it) was likely eased by the fact that 2 of the cats were littermates, one of the others was the daughter of one of those littermates, and the other was the son of a previous-litter-sibling of the littermates. *runs names through head really quick to make sure that's right--Simon & Kizzy, Little Bit, Buckwheat, Camille* Other combinations existed, as some of the cats had to be put to sleep for various reasons, but the combinations always included littermates or mother/kitten pairs. So lap-sharing may not always be possible.
