... would be a carrot!
I took the plunge today and decided to change my first name by deed poll. I've been known by two different names over the past five or six years - one by my friends and church, one at my place of work, my parents and older friends.
It's going to be interesting seeing the reaction of the people at work as it's not a normal run-of-the-mill name.
I suppose I should change my passport and driver's licence too, although for the moment, I don't think it's going to be a big deal if I don't. I'd forgotten that these things have cost implications and I don't really want to incur extra costs before my QM2 trip.

"Congratulations, I guess, one does not get/change their name on every occasion.
Is it not custom to have an easy&unique name just for common day use and official names for the paperwork where you live?
I have been known by a dozen by now, each school each job a new one. I always like these habits as they seem to reveal some aspect of your personality.
However, I hardly ever notice the name day as they just grow on you most times.
And, does your new name fit?"

Yes, I did it on-line and filled in the form. I now have to get it witnessed and signed.
Does it fit? It means 'angel of womanhood'. I suspect it's up to others to judge that.

'Angel of womanhood' Fantastic ZSF!
My name means 'Oath of god' - whatever that means
I had a friend who changed her surname by deedpoll. She had to change her passport etc immediately, because she no longer existed under her old name. Is it different for given names?

It's a Sanskrit name, Fb. It took me about three years to tell anyone about it and I gradually spread its use. It led to the strange situation of my being called one thing by one set of people and another by another. It's probably about time I integrated the two parts of me.
I only had one given name, and now I'll have two, with the new one being first, so I should still exist under my new name. I will get the passport changed when I have to - I'm told that the UK Deed Poll Service can tell other official bodies about my new name, and you may be right - I may have to change my passport immediately, in which case, I hope it can be done quickly without interfering with my holiday.

PPS: Oaths I can think of include such things as:
zounds! = God's wounds
Gadzooks! = God's hooks
Gorblimey! = God blind me
- all pretty fierce stuff!

Well my dear ZSF
I feel provileged that that is the only name I know you by!! Apart from ZSF.
I did not reliase that you had got so far with your trip on QE2. Please could you be so kind as to let me know how you did the booking - You will know about the change in our living arrangements. It is still so strange and I feel quite isolated, but very happy for him. It had to be done and I am sure will only have positive results.
Much affection to little and yourself.

My dear R1
Yes, I'm glad you know me as that. I felt it was time to be consistent. Going to see mum and dad with Roy was interesting, he called me one thing, they called me another. Mind you, I can't see them calling me anything else - although - mum changed the way her name was about 20 years ago. She used to be called Gertrude, now she's known as Trudy, so I suppose there's a precedent!
Roy did the booking for the QM2 - I think it was done on-line. Would you like the link? It was a bit scary, because of the cost and it will take all my savings (the rainy day ones), so I would like there to be sunny (or at least fine) days for quite a while!
I was thinking of you earlier today and wondering how you got in and out of your car and who puts your wheelchair in and out now.
Little is in bed ... I'll give him a from you in the morning.
Meanwhile, s and to you and K.

We'll be spending four or is it five days in New York itself, so a trip up the Empire State Building is on the menu.
