vb.NET FIRE WALL TYPE FUNCTIONS

PINEAL23-----------------Lurking in corners

please can anyone help

ive spent a month trawling the net looking for a tutorial or source code to help me with this and ive hit a large brick wall infact ive hit several.

I taught myself vb 6.0 and am now upgrading to vb.net as a hobbiest.

My friend asked me to write him an xml database prog in vb.net to sort and store ip address blocks for him eventually i got around to doing it only to find he did'nt want it anymore. So not willing to wast my work i decided to adapted into a fire wall type thing to monitor my tcp/ip connections and store the addresses in the xml db using the iphelper api's. This done I have decided to work on it a little more so that i could find out which services on my xp pc were connecting to which port.

This is where a brick wall snuck up and boddy slamed me straight in the mush.smiley - headhurts

Ive found an api call used in some vb 6.0 source code (getservbyport)
that will do it but i get neumerouse errors reported (and a grand canyon sized headache)when I try to upgrade the code to .net

surely there is some function in vb.net that can do this instead of having to beat a largley undocumented api call around my head several times or if not can i have some pointers on how to use the getservbyport api and associated api's in vb.net.

smiley - grovelwill sombody please help a ignorant wanna be programer befor i give up and put my head through my computer screen.

smiley - weird
