h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Today I joined h2g2 (as you may have noticed by the fact that I am here). I have been lurking around for a while and finally I decided I should really just join. I am only worried now that I will become so addicted that I lose what little grasp on reality I still have (which is not much)....

....and someone just gave me some good news so I am Happy .

I am delighted that you have volunteered to be my GA, but Titania has also volunteered....I suppose I can always have two?? Or I can just ramble on to you for a while (something I do far too much).

The good news was just something small and insignificant. A friend of mine just got promoted...which is good as she is a very close friend and her happiness made me happy .

I think I'm just getting the hang of finding my way about. It's just all so huge!

Thanks for the help anyway, its nice to find a website where people are actually friendly enough to come along and offer help to little lost people like me .

I'm sure I read somewhere that GAs could help with website design problems, so I was wondering of you could recommend a good place to get nice, easily customisable web sets?

If youre talking about real web sites, I wouldn't know, if you are talking about your personal page on h2g2, go to the GuideML Clinic.

Good pages to learn from are Bossel, Barton and Titania.

Some people here have far too much time on their hands! It was certainly...educational...anyway (I especially like the description of man-to-man hugging ).

I was wondering...we have this huge Guide for Earth, but surely all we need is one page saying "Mostly Harmless"???

Well, there's the ultimate page:

But that's from the guide to the galaxt, and the explenation to the brutal editing cut was that the galaxy is so huge.

A definition of the effect that walking on the grass in places that it is not allowed on the taste of cofee in the cafetiria might be cut to "Mostly harmless" here. Because it is small relatively to the scope of the guide

It contains much that you wouldn't find in an encyclopedia and much more that you wouldn't know to search for in an Encyclopedia, and also it's much more fun to learn from.

How very educational! I really must try writing a Guide entry. What is the best way to start? And how do I think of something to write about? There's just so much stuff!!

Well, you should write about something that:
1. You like
2. You know about/willing to research thurally
3. There isn't an Edite Guide Entry already on the subject (use the search)

For a first attempt, try really choosing something you know a lot of, and can explain verry easily. It can be a place you like near your home, ,some museum you like going too, a theoretical subject you like to go about or something practical, like hypnosis or catheters
