Nothing quite like it, but if you are new to Scotch... you may be turned off by its nose (smell)...
Perosnally, its one of my faves!

Yes, there's a risk of that. Connaisseurs say the The Macallan is a good start for an introduction to the singel malts, and I quite agree. But chances are you will develop your taste and go for the smokier stuff like the Islay-brands. I REALLY enjoy Laphroaig, but also have a thing for Talisker, Ardbeg and Bowmore. Absolutely grand stuff. Roomtempered, no ice, no water. Mmmmmmmm....

I bought a very expensive bottle of 30 year old Laphroaig at Singapore duty free about three years ago. Keeping it in a cupboard the other side of the world and only allowing one other person a (very) wee dram means that I still have about half a bottle. Best whisky I've ever drunk - and buying it entitles me to a glass as rent on my square foot of Islay if I ever manage to visit the distillery

The ten year old cask strength Laphroaig is excellent too. But don't try to compare it with anything else.. Once you've tasted it you won't be able to taste anything else for at least an hour.
