Yes I was wondering just how relevant to smiley - nurse training in Dundee this stuff about Grangemouth was. smiley - biggrin

Mind you as a Bo'nessian I know that there are some odd folk in Grangemouth. On our older maps it has "Heere be DRAGONS" over that part of the world. I know that must be true cos I can hear them roaring at night and sometimes see their flaming breath light up the sky. It must be in the same state as Dale when attacked by Smaug. Don't quite see myself as Bard however. More one of he Hobbits who never left the Shire.

As far as Dundee is concerned, any town who's primary webcam focusses on a statue of Desperate Dan can't be all wrong. I only know of it as somewhere I passed through while taking my daughter to Aberdeen to study radiography. So IF Dr V trips over his wee bell running from Smaug she'll Xray him if he gets to Falkirk Casualty.

Ahhh. That's it. The relevance of this thread to smiley - nurse training. But I can't quite sort out if it's the sociology or psychiatry module .....

crazyhorse is right.

Online you can go to

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

They will give you times and prices. At a guess you may have to go to Glasgow Central and change to Queen St. Then you may have to go via Edinburgh Haymarket or straight there depending on the times. Book a ticket and seat day or so in advance in case there's a football match on smiley - biggrin

If the interview is in the morning then it might be wiser to go the day before and spend a night in a B&B or hotel in Dundee cos it's quite a journey. You do have a student railcard don't you? It'll be cheaper ++ smiley - biggrin

If I recall the hospital is some way out of the centre of town to the east so be sure the interview is at the hospital or the Uni. According to the Dundee City site you can get a bus 9/x or 10/x from the town centre to the hospital and Abertay is in the town centre. There are some popups on the site so be sure to disable the disable popupssmiley - erm (press key).

The info from the Uni should give some idea of how to get there. I know it sounds silly but do read it smiley - erm I smiley - erm speak from experience heresmiley - sadface.

Hints on interviews.

1. Chat to careers advice folk at school/college. They're not all daft and can point you in correct direction. They may do practice interviews.

2. Arrive a bit early with a book to read. (to while away the time so a light novel not a nursing or theology text)

3. Dress fairly respectably (sorry if irrelevant to someone with your sartorial expertise smiley - winkeye)

4. Do a little question spotting for brief answers eg why do you want to be a nurse, and why here?

5. Don't worry if you don't know the answer. They're mainly interested in what you're like and how you think or solve problems. eg I don't know but I'd look it up (preferrably knowing vaguely where. If all else fails "the library"!)

6. They won't expect you to know all about nursing (else why go on the coursesmiley - biggrin) but it wouldn't do any harm to read a couple of copies of Nursing Times etc. for what's happening in nursing. You'll get them at John Menzies as well as your Dundee street map.

7. Chat to a local district nurse (at you're GP surgery of course smiley - biggrin) or someone you or your family know who works at Crosshouse (as senior as possible - no disrespect to auxilliaries but a ward sister or charge nurse will usually have a wider knowlege).

8. Everyone else will be twitching inside too. Some of us are better at hiding it.

Sorry I've waffled on a bit. It's a while since I went to an interview but lots of other younger members of the thread will have better & more up to date ideassmiley - biggrin.

And while you're at the station (or even on linesmiley - winkeye) check the conditions for student cards. I think they're pretty elastic.
