A Conversation for French Horns

I play french horn in a high school ensemble and the director has (graciously) decided to buy a new horn for the school...I was wondering if anyone had any brand or model suggestions. Most of the instruments at our school are Conns, but I know those are criticized on occassion for having too dark a sound.

Gnomon - time to move on

If you want a quick reply to this, you'd be better asking at the Ask the H2G2 Community forum. It may be weeks before any passing horn player notices this here.

Hmmm... I don't really like Conns - I prefer a narrow bore horn (I have an Alexander 103 smiley - smiley). Paxman and Alexander are two very reputable brands here in Europe - I'm pretty sure that Paxman sell in the US - or if you want a cheaper horn that's still made to professional standards, try Finke.
