He looks familiar - maybe a novelist or poet?

As he's on a pub sign, was there an outcry *because* he looks like Hitler?

Do you get Wetherspoons in Ireland? I'm trying to narrow it down.

We don't get Wetherspoons in Ireland (as far as I know). This was not a million miles removed from Ireland, though.

Well it must be in the UK, then. From his moustache, I'd put him in the early-to-mid 20th century - his picture reminds me of those of some of the early Prime Ministers. If he's a novelist, then I'm tempted to say someone like Kipling, who I think had a moustache.

No, it is not Mosley. It is a poet.

I only flicked through it while on a break (it was on the table at work - I didn't buy it!) so I'm afraid I can provide no more details.

The people of Merseyside objected to a picture of poet John Masefield on a local Wetherspoons pub, because it looked like Adolf Hitler. Masefield spent a long time on a ship parked in Birkenhead (if that's the word for ships).

One report I saw said the pub owner was refusing to change the sign because that's what Masefield looked like, but I say another headline saying the sign might be changed.
