Having been on this been knocking about; on this, somewhat chilly at the moment, plantoid of ours for more years than you would care to try and puff out candles on a birthday cake-wihtout feeling rather feint.
I have some experience, of life; the this planetoid, and a few things: so!
I am here to help you in your quest for that perfect Christmas present not just for your bookish pals, but to everyone who has the faculty of language ; feeling ; and even the most demanding sense of humour-you will not be dissapointed!
I am here to spread the word; "DIMENSION OF MIRACLES" By that author who can tell a joke in almost any language in the known Galactic Stew ( every civilized one for sure ) : Robert Sheckley.
Dont take my word for it, read the reviews before you buy, lend from the public library, or talk someone into giving up their precious copy for a week or two.
If upon reading it, you think it is not one of the best books you have ever read-i will buy the coffees, or something of equal value for the rest of the year!
Heres to a perfect little book-may you enjoy and spread the word!Cheers!
I dare you to read the first page, and then try putting it down and forgetting about it!

Thanks for the tip, Lofty. I have researched this extensively and at great expense and peril to myself (naturally) on a well-known American website, which I cannot name since that would put this taking of short extracts straight into Google.
Here are the three brief extracts from one of its reviewers, followed by my own thoughts:
EXTRACTS 1-3
"1, Carmody is an ordinary, unremarkable Earthman. One day he discovers that there is a galaxy wide civilisation, unknown to humans and he has won a prize in the galactic lottery. He is taken away from the Earth and given his prize which turns out to be a taking but opinionated source of advice. Armed only with his prize, he sets out on a hilarious journey across the galaxy...
2. The prize's advice is not always much use. When Carmody is confronted by a Tyrannosaurus Rex, the prize can only suggest turning into a plant or singing hymns!...
3, If you think that this sounds a lot like "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams, you are right but THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN A DECADE EARLIER and it is funnier."...
MY THOUGHTS
It's is highly recommended by readers over there. I was particularly struck by its being a forerunner of h2g2, so I think it may be of interest to many of us.
I am deep in the middle of reading all the many and deep novels and stories of Philip K. Dick myself, so I won't be able to read it just yet, but it seems to be all that Lofty says it is and more, by all accounts.
I repeat though that I have not yet read it myself.

Yes a small book, but perfectly formed!
There is a book called "Dimensions of Sheckley " , which has an anthology of his ( 3 of his books , i think ), and "Dimension of Miracles" is there; thats the best way , as far as i can make out of, getting a brand new copy.
I am glad i have you on my side Jab!
