Bank holiday weekend, I had a go at brewing.
Didn’t work too well, I had ordered whole wheat, not crushed by accident. I tried to mill it in a mini blender, but over did it, and there was a bit too much trubb. The copper coil I bought to crash cool the wort after the boil had a kink in it, so I couldn’t bring the temperature of the wort down immediately, and had to leave it overnight
By the morning, the yeast wasn’t as lively as I would have liked, so I gave up and ditched the batch. Shame really.
Saturday morning, we wandered up to Tolworth and spotted a car we liked.
Sunday & Monday Zantic & Psycho Chicken came over and Munchkin slaved over a hot BBQ cooking for us all a fine ole evening was had sitting, drinking listening to music and talking nonsense.
Monday there was a Classic car show in town, so we went to look at that, many cars to drool over. After a spot of lunch and trip to the Cinema to see ‘Reign of Fire’ we headed back to the pub for tea & then wended our way home.
Tuesday I booked the car in for a check over. The date was set for Thursday Fair enough. Munchkin took the afternoon off to go and sit in. Only the date had been moved to Friday, except nobody had thought to tell us! So I wrangled a bit of free time on Friday and went to get a good look at this car.
Well while it was in the showroom, under soft lighting, it had looked lovely. Putting it up on a ramp and getting decent light to it made all the difference. The car was 30 years old, so we weren’t expecting perfection. However, the chap had said that the bodywork had been restored a year or so ago. There was rust & holes in the chassis and one of the sills was in real trouble.
Upshot is, we’re not buying it, and I’m waiting for the dealer to give me back my deposit. It cost £50 to have the test done, but boy was it worth it!
Last weekend we wandered into London. The Barbican have an exhibition of computer games and we had a fine old time playing in there they even had the h2g2 text adventure When we came home, Munchkin found it online, and loaded it onto my PDA for me
Sunday my Brother and his family visited. I don’t see them very often, and they are thinking of emigrating, so I may see them even less!
Tonight I am sitting typing, while I have a gap in brewing. I have different wheat and a new copper cooler, so I am having another go. So far so good, the packet yeast seems to be ok, although there was a hole in the mash bag. I think some serious work will need to be done with the mash tun .
Still, it does smell good
