A Conversation for The Joy of Socks

A Probability Problem

Post 1

Mindy

I have been trying to work this one out, but my A-level maths is too rusty - can anyone help?

If you have ten pairs of socks, and you put them all in the wash, then put ten socks back in the drawer, what is the probability that they are all in pairs? And what is the probability that, if you pull two socks out of the drawer, those two are a pair?

You know all about socks, hitchhikers - especially smelly or ill-assorted ones. So answers, please.
