Yes, I did, I finished the story 'Glory', about a young woman going into combat and her life-changes as a result.I finished 'Glory' at about 13.30 on 10/12/01,the birthday of my sister (whose birthday I forgot, sorry Carol...) 
The story is a thinly-disguised allegory about the Afghanistan thing, of course...
I'll be glad to see the back of 2001,it hasn't lived up to Arthur C Clarke's optimistic projection... Personally and in terms of world events. Someone said yesterday, it's been a year of death. George Harrison, the 911 event, war - it's never ending. 
I hope that 2002 will be better, the best thing about 2001 was the Wedding, not much else. (Sorry,people I have met in h2g2 and the BBC, I met you all in 2001, and you've added your distinctiveness to my perfection. Yes, I am Borg! (Not - or, am I?)
