Every1 has differant rules 4 this.
t way we play it is one person hides and then the others try 2 find them.If u find them yiu have 2 hide with them the game continues until theres only 1 person left hidding.
A moderation is, if you find t person hidding u tel them u have and then slyly wander off.
Also I absoloutly hate t game stuck in the mud 'coz 1 persons it all t time

Does the name "Sardines" actually exist outside "Bottom"? Everyone I know calls it "hide and seek".

Sardines is different to hide and seek because when you've found the first person to hide you have to hide with them. The last person to find (by now) everyone else loses. It's better with a larger group.
Ordinary hide and seek you just keep looking until you find the hiding person, then you swap hiding and seeking roles. This works better with just two of you.

This is sardines for adults. Everyone goes off in pairs (1 of each sex) and hides, and no-one looks for anyone ...
