However, it is probably quite true that people aged 18-22 are utterly without any practical usefulness whatsoever. I myself am 23 and have still been unable to find any real purpose (although I am currently infiltrating an office full of real people and trying to work out what to do all day).
The lucky thing about this is that while we are slotted into this temporary limbo between societal dependant and corporate whore we are actually given the opportunity to have fun. I think if this opportunity is taken it tends to lead to adults being more empowered and able to still have fun. Sadly, in the older generations a lot of people missed out.
So while you're pondering on just what the f**k it is you're supposed to be learning, make sure you learn how to have fun.
(Of course I'm not Aunt Aggie or whatever so don't think I'm being nosey. I just went through a very similar College* experience)!!!!
*[actually we have universities in New Zealand but same thing]

I'm glad you understand. Its not that I totally do not aprreciate college. Yet I just have a problem with authority and responsibility...I am 20 and i don't feel that I should be here. I was forced to go to college of my own free will. It really isn't as if I had any choice. Aside from the fact, that college doesn't do very much. I truly believe that this is a system that they use to keep us out of the work force. How is it in New Zealand??

Well NZ up till the past decade had a really good education system, however our government who are basically a pack of circus freaks trying to outdo each other in slapstick stupidity competitions are steadily heading towards more privatised tertiary industry.
What this means is that we pay more and more for the privelige of serving our society in a chosen skill or trade, and that we will spend our first 20 or so years trying to pay off the debt we managed to run up while assimilating 4 years worth of obscure and irrelevant information.
Now that I have entered the workforce without a degree (I gave up trying to kid my parents after a year and a half), I am being paid a better wage than some of my friends who did more than just smoke cannabis and sleep through philosophy lectures (which was all I did).
I do believe that Universities, Polytechs and so on are important, but they're not for everyone. Also I think that the education systems of the world are completely backwards and narrow. There are no schools that cater to the broad range of intellects shown by the young people of this planet.
Now that I'm free of the clammy confines of formal education, I am learning firstly how to learn (you'd think that would be the first thing they would teach you) and secondly I'm able to learn about things that are interesting or concerning to me. Of course people with different intellects need structure and discipline, and if they were in my situation would probably sit around smoking pot most of the time.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that everyone is different and it can be really alienating for a round peg trying to be pushed into a square hole (or whatever).
But after a few years you will be returned to society and encouraged to think for yourself (as long as the brainwashing doesn't work)
By the way - happy birthday.

Thank you for the happy birthday, it is still aways away. June 24th. But thanks anyways. I appreciate it. I agree with your opinion of the education system. Its just not for eveyone.. I was forced to go by my parents will. (Not very unusual) I am sure I will get my degree even though I dont want to be here. NZ sounds a little like the US in ways. Yet, i still do not know what the hell i am doing here.

Yeh, I have been called immature in my time. I hope you have fun at your fiona concert. Also, the legalization argument is getting slightly heated it seems. Anywho do you really like acid that much?? I've done it a few times and while I really enjoy it, it gets to me a little too much (my sanity i mean)

yeah. it is funny to read conversations about topics that are of real importance to our generation, rather than crap like world politics and economics. grownups are so boring I hope I never do.
I do like taking LSD but I haven't done so for awhile. It is quite compatible with my mindset, I think because I have never had a bad time on it.
I had a great weekend. Fiona McDonald rocked (she used to be in a NZ band called Headless Chickens).
Anyway now I have some silly work to do.

chickens?
Hmm... Acid should be used sparingly i think. From the few times i have done it I've had a wild time, good life experiences. Grown ups do suck. A lot of people on the forums just like to insult, or berate other peoples topics of conversation. As if drugs and alcohol are not important. Or maybe the opinion of our generation is supposedly not important?. So many cool people here, but a few shmucks too.
Exams

Hail. How goeth thy Finals?
Acid- Yes sparingly. I doth imbibe it only on special occasions because, verily, it is nice to experience that feeling of anticipation, and when you partake of it's hallucination, the anticipation is dulled. And verily, all my stuff would get wrecked.
Well my hopes are that your exams do not prove unassailable in their querying. Indeed I am sure that you will prevail.
Exams!!!
Imaldris Posted May 19, 1999
Exams argh. Well my exams are going thats for sure. Thank you for the inqueiry. AS i write this I am procrastinating against my next vile exam. LOGIC! the logic exam does not seem logical to me. One more test to go and then I AM FREE AT LAST!!!
Anyhow, the acid would definitely mess up my stuff if i used it too much. The first time i did it i took a little to much and ended up sitting in a closet for an hour. But then all went well. I also found out that god was a goat that lived between my dressers (but thats a whole nother enchelada) Oh, by the way that was a very nice essay on marijuana. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I think a drug forum should be started soon for other things like acid and shrooms though. Thanks again for the good will on my exams. Tomorrow when i write i shall be carefree!! HOORAY!!
