She emailed me today. I feel better now.

And Greg it has not so much to do with how much time she spends on *this* site so much as how visible she is on *any* site or in *email* cause she... wasn't at all for a while there. smiley - winkeye

Wolfman, Zaphodista :X (soon to be Zarquon again, or maybe not)

I was wondering where she was as well. I sent her an email over a week ago at the floor 42 address, and then again a few days ago at the greenbug one. I was hesitant to bother her over email matters on her h2g2 page, but I finally decided I'd better, in case her email wasn't working. I still haven't gotten one back. Kate, are you reading this? I'm just wondering why you haven't responded, since you're usually unbelievably prompt. There's no hurry (although I was hoping there would have been, because that would have meant instant success for the launching of the HVS), but I'd like to hear from you. OK, at least I know you're fine. (Unless everyone is lying and they are really holding you hostage somewhere in the Nevada desert.)

Well she's always responded quickly to mine. Often within 24 hours. Anyway, I would have liked for her to have been the first one to join the H2G2 Vegetarian Society (if she wanted to) but I already somebody now, so she'll have to settle for second. I'm debating whether to tell Peta about it now, or wait until I get some more members. But reading that vegetarianism article, I know there are plenty of potential members, so it should work eventually. If you guys want to take a look at it, feel free. It's http://www.h2g2.com/A299315 But I'm afraid you have to be a vegetarian to join.

What's he afraid of, that's what I want to know. I mean, if I started, say, a beer-drinking society, I'd say, "I'm confident you have to be a beer drinker to join".

I have found out, on a vegetarian note, those veggie sausage link thingys taste pretty good when you cook them in the same pan as your bacon. smiley - smiley

Z, i am not a vegitarian, altough i have been previously. Is the "must be" a solid deal or what? Why was the decision made to exclude omnivores? How can i show support of vegitarianism if i am to be excluded? And what is the limit of vegitarian? I know people who claim vegitarianism while eating fish.

Kate

Hello my lovelies!

First of all, reading this thread (the first half of it) was really strange (and entertaining), sort of like overhearing a conversation about yourself while you're in the room. I am really sorry to have missed so much lately; life is keeping me very, very busy and more than a little insane. I know life has been roughing more than one of us up a bit lately, and I'm sorry I haven't been around to offer support. That and I miss you guys a lot smiley - smiley

But the good/bad news is that I'm really sick at the moment, so I have little that I can do except take medication and loaf about the apartment in my pjs (and of course whine a lot). I hope to get into the online swing of things again for at least a few days. I have a frighteningly long "to do" list (I love Outlook "Tasks", by the way), and on that are quite a few "reply to Spartus about this, reply to Z about that" type things. It might seem a bit impersonal, but I have to write it down because the drugs aren't helping my short term memory at all.

As for the vegetarian group - I applaud your efforts, Z. You've come a long way from that person who, six or so months ago, took three minutes to "admit" that you were a vegetarian. I'm happy to see you getting comfortable with sharing your experiences in that arena. As for me, however, I try not to join sectioned groups at h2g2.com. It's a personal thing - I like to try to keep my experience at this place as non-confrontational as possible. My take on my own h2g2 experience is that it should be an effort toward fewer separators between people, not more. Please note that this is my opinion and not a reflection on your group in particular; there was another vegetarian group here a while ago that I chose not to join for the same reasons. That said, I must agree with the above threads that excluding non-vegetarians from supporting vegetarianism is counteractive to what I think you're trying to achieve. I know that you're in a much less vegetarian-tolerant situation than I am, but it might serve you better to open up the lines of communication with non-vegetarians than to shut them out. Exclusion only serves to build resentment and heighten conflict, not to mention hurt feelings along the way. That's my .02.

I do, however, have something to contribute to your links section if you so choose - I really don't think any collection of vegetarian links would be complete without the Vegetarian Resource Group - http://www.vrg.org/

Take care everybody. As a person dear to my heart once said to me, "I have nothing but love for you."

Wolfman, Zaphodista :X (soon to be Zarquon again, or maybe not)

Well, I'm disappointed, but it's your choice, and I accept that. I didn't mean for it to be a "dividing" thing, so to speak. More of a way to unite with other vegetarians. But I see your point, guys. I did say that meat eaters were welcome to visit and discuss, but maybe more is needed. How does this sound? A seperate list of members for those who support the idea of vegetarianism even though they themself are not. I guess I was thinking such a thing didn't exist, but I know there are people who believe in animal rights, but not strongly enough to make that kind of sacrifice. The only thing I'm afraid of is that some of the more outspoken people that I've seen in the vegetarianism thread will confront the nonvegetarian members, calling them hipocrits or something like that, and it could get real ugly. I suppose I could always put them on the same list, but I kind of intended for this to be a way to find other vegetarians easily. That's why I want an official membership system in the first place. Do you guys have any suggestions for a solution?

Anyway, Kate, thank you very much for the link. I will add that as soon as I get a chance, and although I wish you would reconsider, I am certainly not offended (referring to email)! I can see that you are the type that likes to get along with everyone, and you are of the Teddy Roosevelt (don't even say it KM!) philosophy at least in respect to the "speak softly" part, and something tells me that you could wield that metaphorical stick something fierce if the need arised. smiley - winkeye I admire that a lot, even though the NVS isn't meant to be confrontational.

After I resolve the membership issue, I'm going to come up with a mission statement, which will include the clear intention to peacefully coexist with those who eat meat. As for the definition of "vegetarian" I will leave that up to those who want to join. If you consider yourself a vegetarian, I will recognize you as one. Obviously people who eat steaks every friday don't qualify, but it's true that "vegetarian" is a rather arbitrary word. Thank you for pointing that out. One more thing, Kate, when you say there was another vegetarian group on h2g2, are they still around officially? If they have the same basic goals as my group, than it's rather pointless to have another. I'll have to look into that.

Kate: Good luck with your new career! I hope everything turns out the way you want it to. When you do finally get back into the groove internet-wise, be sure to drop me a line. I don't know what my Kent address will be, but if the cboss one isn't around, just ask KM, cause we chat all the time on AIM, and I hope to keep that up, so she'll probably know. Take care Kate!

Anyways, I'm making this way too long. So if you guys have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Bye for now!
