Very entertaining article - well done! 
I vaguely remember a character "Shake Hands" from Alan Bleasdale's 'Boys from the Blackstuff' - I think he went around deliberately crushing people's hands, until he picked on Yosser. Can anyone confirm?

The only things I remember from 'Boys from the Blackstuff' and mine are vague too, is the head butting, and 'gis a job, I can do that' or something like that.
