Ummm... I think you need to ask Peta http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U24 or Mark Moxon http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U13 about it. I'm not sure what can be done about it though... smiley - sadface
Good luck and all the best of everything in getting this sorted!

Thank you Ming Mang

Several passing researchers and ACEs are offering ideas and support. If it works out and I get my old space back, I'll dedicate this space to offering suggestions to people in a similar peril.
In the meantime please help yourself to smiley - bubbly. I have plenty of it here in the lifeboat.

Hah, that's what I did! But I quite like being stupidgirl, so I'm staying here by default...This is actually the second time I've 'lost' myself, so there are three of me wandering around somewhere... Anyway, good luck, and if you get back, let me know how you did it! smiley - winkeye

So .....
Margaritas, sour cream and hedgehog flavoured crisps with guacamole; now you're asking for cookies? D'you want fries with that?
Some people!
If it's any consolation (No, I know it's not.) after I had achieved re-entry [with no small expenditure of ingenuity and a little help from that nice Mr. Moxon ] h2g2 threw me out. One day "Welcome plaguesville, make yourself at home, plaguesville; three bags full plaguesville."
I logged out.
Next day: goo gone, but my page and name there for all to see; "Hello unknown hitchiker, you cannot post to a forum until you have registered."
Tcha!
Don't let them think you are prepared to accept that you have contributed to the problem. It's them! (or "they"). They're out to get us!

Ah-ha. Posted this earlier but it hasn't appeared yet. Told you they're out to get us.

I've been wandering aimlessly around h2g2 trying to find help and advice to see if there was anyting I could do to get myself out of the mess. I guess not, I'll have to wait until the italics arrive back at the towers on Monday, let them have a good laugh at my situation, and then see where we go from there.

One useful thing I have discovered on my travels is that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU EVER, EVER HIT THE "LOGOUT" BUTTON. This deletes your cookie and if you haven't got a BBC identity you will not get back in! My situation exactly.

Now that you mention it .....
I'd been investigating the Zaphodista references, and one of them invited inspection of a page with the caution that callers *should* log out otherwise no one else would be able to access the page (or something technical like that). As I always do as I'm told, I did.
There seems to be a pattern developing. Have we got some anti revolutionaries at work?
That settles it. I'm gonna sign up now.

rESEARCHER 172126 (Oh No GreyDesk has done it AGAIN - its my third identity folks!)

Absolutely. Everything was fine until the takeover. Even after the takeover I had no problems, just hit the bookmark and you're in to h2g2.

Problem came when I deleted the cookie. The next time I click my bookmark to h2g2 and say "hello h2g2 its me", the BBC answer, "Hello, who the f*ck are you? Registration this way please sir" - hence the second identity.

Repeating the mistake to lose my newly minted (and about 10 hours old) identity, causing me have to create a third personality, is just too embarrassing to talk about.

Aw, fanks, don't mind if I do...
Yes, I have to say that I was also quite embarrassed. After the changeover, i couldn't get back in, so registered a new persona...busied around telling everyone who I was...Then managed to find my OLD self (threeoftwo) so crowed mightily about how clever I was...Then lost it again. So I give in. I do feel a little teensy bit better now I know I'm not the only one, though! (Although I have been informed that my state of blondeness is permanent and has nothing to do with my hair colour...)
I'm now off to spend a few hours trying to make my page a little bit more interesting... it took me about a month to figure out guideML last time, but at least I know where the clinic is this time.

You are very welcome to the smiley - bubbly We also have smiley - cakesmiley - ale and smiley - stout here for your delectation.
I just checked out your previous self and am impressed by your grasp of GuideML. I must learn this tool when one of the three of me gets back to my original identity.

Hmm...Still don't get this guideML thingy. Lot's more smiley - bubbly needed, maybe it will make more sense when I'm virtually drunk. I've had to take a break before I throw my 'pewter across the room, I keep getting 'bad closing element....' And it's SUCH a good job I'm not at work tomorrow, h2g2=toodamnaddictive!

Hello... I'm back to my original and vsmiley - drunk selfsmiley - smiley

Its easy to get an old identity back. You e-mail the italics (address on the help pages) and they will give you all the necessaries. In my case the problem was the case sensitive nature of the BBC login process smiley - doh

Anyway, celebratory smiley - bubblysmiley - ale and smiley - cake all round
