Hello and welcome to the h2g2 being 42 recovery association.
Some of us have already been there and personally speaking, I feel that you have hit on the right antidote.
Being older, if only by a year is definitely part of the answer.
I am now 50, and can hardly remember yesterday, never mind 8 years ago.......
At some future point, someone official will apear from h2g2 to say hello and give you some useful information.
until then, explore, explore, etc.etc.
Click on names to get to homepages.
Foolow threads to get into conversations.
It's easy to get the hang of, have fun.....
bye

You're responsible for your own spelling mistakes, but that can happen at any age.
I'm logging off as I have to go to bed and get up in an hour to get a 15 year old up for his milk round.
Nice reply, will come back to you over the weekend.
bye....

Did someone mention an official greeting? Ask and you shall receive!
Welcome to h2g2, djsdude! I'm rapidly approaching the 42 mark myself! I figure every day above ground is a good one ...
My name is Shea, and I am an Assistant Community Editor (ACE) and a Guardian Angel (GA). We're a group of volunteers that flit about welcoming and helping new Researchers. If you want to ask me a question, or need help with anything, just hit the "Reply" button and leave a message, I'll fly back in and help you in any way I can!
Have you checked out the Welcome pages yet? They're a good place to start:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Welcome
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Welcome-DNA
If you're interested, I made a page with a list of links that you might like to check out. It's at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A534953 .
There's lots to do around h2g2! You can write Guide Entries, post in your Journal, join clubs and communities, have a few drinks in a pub, join spirited debate, or just make some new friends!
If you ever want to talk to a Researcher, djsdude, just click on their name. That will take you to their Personal Space, and you can leave them a message there (like I'm doing now!) by clicking on the 'Discuss this Entry' button.
Most importantly, have fun! You might find yourself meeting some great new friends! I know I have!

Thank you

Thanks for the welcome.
Hopefully I'll get the hang of h2g2 quite quickly, though rest assured you'll be the first I'll call for if I get lost.
Thanks again

Hey djsdude! I'm a Guardian Angel, and though I often shirk my duties, I stopped in to say hello. My advice is to click the Who's Online link on the left and click on an interesting name. That takes you to they're page where you can usually find out something about that person and see where they've been conversing. This way you can get some replies while you're here.
Cheers!!

A few weeks back I saw a Genesis tribute band called Regenesis perform the whole of the lamb live. Slipperman costume, and all. That was at Guildford, at the bi-annual Genesis convention. If you weren't there you should have been. It was magical. Thanks for the contact.

Sorry Cloughie. Guildford, Surrey, England, is a fair old trek from New York. I visited your space after posting my reply. I'll contact the Regenesis dudes, to see if they fancy taking the show over to the States. You never know.

WOW, one of my fantasies is to see Peter Gabriel back in Genesis and doing the Lamb on toour. But I bet the Regenesis version is pretty good. I was a little young to see Gabriel in Genesis...
Do you play guitar or what? I play guitar, sing and write a lot of my own stuff. I've ALMOST got enough complete songs for an album...

Performing The Lamb in New York just seems right somehow.
Yeh I play Guitars/Bass/Keyboards and Drums. Been writing since I was sixteen. One day I'll have the nerve to release some stuff. Have you ever played in a band?

That's how I got started. In high school, I played bass in a band we called The Village Green. We played an AWESOME version of The Serpent. But we went our seperate ways after high school, so I bought a nice acoustic guitar and have been playing and writing for myself ever since. I've played at a few open mike nights, but I don't know if I'd want to play all of the time. I like to play when I feel like it, not because I have to.

Is there no better way to talk to people on this site. This is so slow.

Lots of us have ICQ numbers. Usually we post them on our page. If you don't have ICQ, go to ICQ.com and get it, it's a fairly quick download and is great for both chatting and sending messages.
