Hiya.
Nice entry. I have a few mates in the area, one told me that the town got its name when a Viking named Orm converted to Christianity and built a church in the area.
Is this true?

Well, based on the fact that in Old English, 'kirk' meant 'church', I would guess that it's highly likely!
