I would like to add a few more words to the list:

West Ham reserves = nerves
Borasic lint = skint
Harry Lime = time
Joseph Baxi = taxi
Mutt 'an Jeff {mutton} = deaf
Collar 'an cuff = tough work

Joe Baxi (taxi) is Glasgow rhyming slang. Apparently, Joe Baxi was a boxer in the 1930's.
What I've never found out is why £25 is called a 'pony' and £500 is called a 'monkey'. Any ideas...? Regards, Muggybonehead.

Because the Indian 500 and 25 rupee notes in the days of the British Raj had pictures on them of a monkey and a pony respectively
