Excellent!
Hang on, I've got a better idea... why don't we get the train? Then we can get to the bar much, much quicker.

Hmmm, yes, Lowestoft... nice... easy to get to... especially from here... you just have to change at Edinburgh... and again at Peterborough... and again at Norwich.

Well, we were kind of toying with the idea of having a weekend-meet-type-thing in Berwick... it's about as far into England as we could persuade the Scottish Researchers Group to travel.

Berwick Upon Tweed... on the east coast, about as far north as you can go without crossing the border into Scotland.

Nah, nothing like that I'm sure! Where would you be leaving from?

From Cambridge it's a doddle, four and a half hours on the train, changing at Ely and Peterborough.
From California, just catch a plane to London and you can take the East Coast main line straight up to Berwick in about three hours. Unless you meant the California near Great Yarmouth? Or the one near Falkirk?

Pressumbably I could also go via londond from Cambridge, get the quick train in to Kings X, which takes 48 mins, then get the east coast mainline up

I would imagine so... it would probably cost a bit more though.
