It's hard to find some words to describe what I'm feeling since the news struck me like a thunder some hours ago.
Are you really dead? I somehow can't believe it. I rather prefer the imagination that you're just playing dead to save taxes. Perhaps you shouldn't have hired the same tax consultant like Hotblack Desiato...?
Doug, you were a very important part of my life. Er, ok, not you personally, but all of your works. They were the ones to open my eyes for british humour and the general senselessness of life (42!). Without the Hitchhiker, my life definitely wouldn't have been the way it was.
Thank you for having been alive and writing such brilliant stuff!
I could continue telling tons of sorrows and so on. But I think that would not be in your sense. Instead, I rather think you sit in Milliways now together with Hotblack, waiting for the main course to appear and convince you of it's delicate liver. And in some time in some place in some parallel universe we will meet again...
May the pangalactic gargle blaster be with you all the time!
