While browsing in the bowels of the PR, I found a "3rd degree crosslink" to this Entry. It describes a rather unknown but nevertheless absolutely fascinating martial art. Have a look at it, I think its worth adding it to the Guide.

Definetly excellent. Great background research too.
Remerk: Roda (portuguese) translates to circle.
Greetings.

Features in Sesame Street occasionally. Fun if you want to learn Salsa this week and Karate next week. But tends to be a bit of a fad unless you are actually Brazillian. For other interesting styles consider Escrima (Which I believe is Portugese for Skirmish) from the Philipines, or Savat (French Kick Boxing) perhaps even Kalari Payat from India (not sure of the spelling).

As one who practiced a bit of capoeira, I think some things are missing:
1. A bit of portuguese words for the important issues (like Esciva(escape), Jinga, Jogo(game))
2. Coverage of the Jinga, the basic capoeira and the "Game" concept.
3. A lot more about the musicians:
The birinbau as the leader, the fact that he decides if a game can be intervened with, and when a game ends and the next begins...

I wrote this article over 6 months ago, and never got around to finishing it. That's why "The Roda" subject header has nothing under it.
Thanks for putting it in Peer Review, though.

Will you go to finishing it now? or should we move it away from PR?

It's going to be quite some time before I get around to finishing it. Might as well remove it so it doesn't add to the clutter.

Hello,
Great. I wind up ready to make comments, only to see it's apparently being removed for retrofitting. Oh well, I just want to say I think it's a great article and I hope to see it back here soon.
My only quibble is that you say in the first paragraph that no contact is made with the opponent, but then describe takedowns and kicks in later paragraphs. Is this some sort of telekinetic thing?
Yours,
Jake

Ola!
I also have a question about the article, which has now been removed etc, but is fairly interesting to think about...
You said that nothing was written down about capoeira when formed, therefore the origins are unclear. However, the most popular brlief is that perhaps records were kept, describing the natural progression of capoeira, the trouble it caused, etc, but when slavery was abolished on 13th may 1888 by princess isabel, all slave documents were burned "for a new beginning" also cleverly destroying all evidence of the numbers of african + indigineous tribe members who were enslaved/killed/.. etc.
just thought i'd give my 2 cents worth..

I've never heard that theory before, but that's not surprising; there are many people who know more about capoeira than I do.
Welcome to H2G2.
