My Biggest Failure

For many, many years I've had a huge poster showing different kinds of 'veld types' of South Africa in my bedroom. For all of those years I've been trying to keep it on the wall. For all of those years it has been falling off again every now and then. Every time it falls off I stick it on again, and then it stays there for a short while and then falls off again. I'm using a 'wonder product with 101 uses' for trying to stick it onto the wall, but it doesn't work, and sticking stuff to the wall is the first and as far as I'm concerned the only use of the product, except it doesn't work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't know of any even more wonderful product that I could use. So I keep trying and keep putting it back every time it falls off and it keeps falling off again. I can't think of any endeavour in my life that I've repeated so many times and yet kept on failing at.

How frustrating. Do you have Blu-tack over there? I find it very useful, but failing that I use drawing pins, which my parents would have been horrified about!

I had a picture once - it was an antique map. I framed it, and I wanted to hang it on the bedroom wall.

My mom had a cool idea: we put a staple in the upper wall, right where it met the ceiling. My mom wanted to have one of those cool picture hangers she'd seen in the magazine, so she attached an old brooch to the staple. So far, so good.

Then we ran a cord from one side of the picture, through the staple, to the other side of the picture. We attached them with thumbtacks. It looked elegant.

About two o'clock in the morning, one of the thumbtacks fell out. The picture crashed down onto the baseboard heater, which was metal. The crash reverberated throughout the house.

I woke up from a very deep sleep. I didn't know what had happened, but I felt panicked. My dad jumped out of bed, claiming an airplane had hit the side of the houose...

Once I got the lights on, I figured it out. smiley - rofl

Picture-hanging can be hazardous to your health. smiley - whistle

heheh. smiley - rofl, Ah yes, the hazards of picture hanging. smiley - rofl.

We have posters in our flat, band posters mainly, ah yes my Neil Diamond poster, smiley - rofl, and others. We gave up the blu-tack, the spat out chewing gum, (no not really, smiley - rofl, although it's tempting), the drawing pins resisted, smiley - rofl, so we end up putting them in clipframes and propping them up where we can. Quite annoying really, all this wall space, that rejects all our posters. Even Neil. smiley - rofl.

How permanently do you want it up? If it's good quality paper, you could go the whole hog and paste it up like wallpaper...

Hi folks! The brand of what I use is called Prestik here in South Africa but it's the same thing as Blu-tack. But it doesn't work, not for that poster and that wall. I don't know if it's the heat or the humidity or what. I don't want to damage the wall in any way, and also I don't want it up permanently ... it is rather old and getting frayed and some day I might find a much better poster showing the environments of South Africa.

Anyways Dmitri you should hear what an awful noise that thing makes when it falls down in the middle of the nigth! And it's nothing but paper!

Maybe I should get a new poster, clean the wall and try to make a fresh start...
