h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I'm hard at work these days sketching people as well as animals. I am trying to get better at quick, accurate sketching ... I've been working through a book called 'Figure Sketching for All It's Worth' but most of those sketches are not publishable on Photobucket. But I'm doing tamer work also. The sketches I did while watching the Conan movie is also part of this practice. I am preparing for illustrating my own science fiction/fantasy stories. Since my main characters are action heroines, I'm also concentrating on sketching women in various 'action' poses. I don't even want to try portraying my actual heroines, though, until I've had much more practice. So for now these are random women based on pics I've found on the internet. For now I've chosen archery as a theme since that involves some nice poses and there are scenes with bows and arrows in my first story. So here are some of my practice sketches:

Okay...how you can manage to get such life into those human figures, while at the same time being so precise with the hardware, is way beyond me...

Ha ha! Dmitri wrote a while ago about writing characters that are based on yourself. Well that goes for drawing as well. I am pretty much a no-frills guy so my subjects would probably come out that way also! Drawing feminine characters is quite a challenge for me. I'm happy you enjoyed the sketches Elektra and Dmitri!

I showed these to Hiccup, saying these are Willem's practise sketches, pah, we are a little envious of your ability, mostly just admiring though.

I will recount that the last one made me splutter on my amaretto and orange, I literally well, hmm, jumped a bit, cue *laughter* from both Hiccup and myelf, as I said 'blimey that nearly made ameretto come out me nose'

It was because I was quite casually admiring the picture before, thinking, ooh, is she balanced right but, well, there is some phwoar in that pose .

Then just clicked on the next one, took a slurp of my drink but was unprepared for the change in intensity in the last drawing, that, and I was looking straight at her eyes and she was pointing a sharp pointy thing at me and looked like she knew well how to use it, and that for a split second startled me

I am going to be here infrequently for a while but I have a priority list, as well as you being on it Willem, is too Dmitri and Elektra I'll be keeping an eye on the progress of Transgender and Intersex Olympians entry

Hi Peanut! Happy that you and Hiccup took a look as well. And if I got a reaction with that last one, well that was what I was aiming (heh heh) at!

You're aim was really good in that last one Willem. I thought that she was one heroine that I would enjoy reading about. Wicked barbs on that arrow.
