This weekend I had a nice art class - what was nice about it is that I presented it! Actually, not much of a class, but I do hope I got things started off. Two kids of a friend of mine, the one is nine, the other eleven. I took some materials and art and showed them a few things, demonstrated a few things, gave them a few ideas and - I hope - some motivation as well. Especially the older one does seem to be quite enthusiastic. I really hope this works out ... it would be a way to 'give' the world something ... we could always do with more art! I'll be going again next Saturday. In the meantime I'll look online for ideas about teaching kids art ... I've a few books over here as well. Teaching kids to draw animals or people is all right ... that I hope I can do ... but the other kid is more into cars! That is not something I have much experience with ...

That sounds like a lovely opening for you Willem. I find many children are fascinated at seeing a drawing or painting develop which is why Rolf Harris's work over here was so popular some years ago.
with it and I hope it builds in to something worthwhile.

Good luck with it, Willem! I'm sure your enthusiasm and your great talent will shine through and get the kids motivated.

Kids will be lucky to have you as an art teacher, Willem - you care, and you can communicate the way you see things.
Now, imagine the horror of having *me* in charge of the 'art'... But I had some English classes with kids, so art we did...
One time, I wanted to tell them about the Middle Ages. So I taught them how to make stained glass windows...you colour them on both sides, then rub cooking fat on them to make them translucent...they liked that. Then we made a 'castle' out of an old box.
Learning that involves being 'hands-on' and using more than one sense is just . Go for it.

Hi folks, thanks for the replies. I'm checking out those web sites, Elektra ... some interesting ideas there! I'll go hunting for some others also. Fortunately, I have many art books here at home as well ... the challenge is to find what is appropriate to their levels.
