The thing is, aspartame's toxiciy has long been common knowledge among the granola crowd, aka natural health/food proponents.

My older daughter drinks diet cola all the time. I've tried to get her to try 
and 
to no avail.
She knows it's bad for her but she doesn't care.

Fruit juice. Iced tea. Iced coffee 
'Natural' soda, sweetened with honey, (just walk a couple of blocks to burn off the calories!) The and can be sweetened with stevia, a natural herb sweetener
My personal favourite coffee sweetener: Canadian Maple syrup
