Oh, that's bad. Email the Eds SWL. Not only will they not discuss this online, but they're more likely to respond quickly if you email them.

A risque joke on a Friday leads to pre-mod on a Monday .... with no e-mail or explanation? I've been here 6 years, been through some pretty fractious debates, contributed to the Guide, Peer Review etc etc etc and I get treated like some inconsequential p.o.s?

Before you go jumping to conclusions , the moderation system has been off, and increasingly weird for sometime. Do the Eds make the premod decision or is it coming from the bbc mod team?

It's not been unusual lately for people to get posts moderated and not receive an email (myself included).

it's more than one joke in that particular thread. Not saying I think you should be on premod, but let's not downplay the fact that that thread has been pushing boundaries for some time

I agree that this is not on. But I'm inclined to think it's more to do with the fact that most of our moderation seems to be going through the bbc mod team now and they're making lots of mistakes.

I think the moderation system got broken when the new version of h2g2 was implemented. Really odd things are happening, such as obvious advertisments in PR not being removed, even when more than one person makes a complaint ( ie yikes them)

This will have nothing to do with our new temporary Editor. I think you have jumped to the wrong conclusion.


And I'd also like to say that the tacky nature of the so-called joke thread leaves a lot of intellectual wit and actual hilarity out there in the cold.

I think the filther's gone psycho like HAL in 2001. It's overstepping its boundaries and taking on a life of its own.

I linked to a particularly bad post in that joke thread (I think it was yours SWL), and then after a bit I yikesed the post. Several other people had also yikesed the post and it wasn't removed. But my post that linked to the joke post got modded and the URL removed (a link to another thread on h2g2 ). Later, the joke post was hidden (maybe after the Eds got involved?), but the whole sequence of events was bizarre. FKF is adamant that the joke post was *edited* when she first yikesed it, I've not heard of that happening for years (and even then it was only to put in * or such, I've not seen the content of a post have words replaced).

FKF also said that she got emails but they only had a copy of her complaint in them and nothing else i.e. nothing about a decision.

If we're being assimilated I wouldn't mind and incorporated into my body somehow.

Well, for what it's worth, I yikesed an obvious advert in PR early this morning. Usually this ensures that the ad is hidden within a few minutes. ( the BBC sets great store by not advertising anything) Not only is the Entry in question still visible, but I have not had the automatic email giving me the complaint reference. So, things are definitely screwy.

If you didn't get an automatic acknowledgement of your email, lanza, try yikesing it again and you will see it says the URL is incomplete.

You will have to email the Eds direct, with the full URL and post number, and wait for them to catch up with it

I have been getting the automated email, but then no decision email. Would you mind posting that useful bit of information on the ACE board, lil*? We do tend to come across more adversiting than most and it would be good to know what the proper process should be now that the moderation system appears to be screwed.
