In this Entry, the author says:
'...hatmakers used a heated solution of mercurous nitrateOtherwise known as mercuric nitrate.' .
However, mercurous nitrate is NOT the same as mercuric nitrate.
It is better to say, '...hatmakers used a heated solution of mercury (II) nitrate...' and omit the footnote altogether.
(Mercurous and mercuric are archaic names now, anyway).

I've done that, Al - the line following it read:
'Every one of these hatmakers had a vat of mercurous nitrate heating away in his workshop.'
So as we've just mentioned mercury (II) nitrate, I've changed it to:
'Every one of these hatmakers had a vat of this nitrate heating away in his workshop.'
Does that sound ok to you?
