A Conversation for How to Speak Brummie
Brummie accents

The description of Birmingham accents given by the BBC is just not accurate. I live in Birmingham and I've never known anyone speak as they describe and Brummies don't speak slowly or in a monotone either, I've never know anyone end a sentence on a lower note. The examples given have more in keeping with the Black Country accent (though not exactly that either) than with the Birmingham accent. Very few of the Brummies I know roll their R's. I don't speak with a Received Pronunciation accent, I speak with a normal Birmingham accent, and so sterotyped and misrepresented is the Brummie accent that people I meet from other regions rarely identify me as a Brummie from the way I speak
