Any comments - too much information, not enough?

Hi Phil, and welcome to h2g2!
Are you from Whitchurch? I know it well. (OK, I've been there twice)
Interesting entry. I'd love to know what it is that excites you about different potato varieties. Could you mention a few popular varieties, and tell us what they are specifically grown for?
(We do have an Edited Guide entry on Potatoes at A193934, but it's one of the old ones, it's not very good, frankly, and it needs serious updating)
Do we still have a Potato Marketing Board? I used to know a couple of people who worked there (it was in Oxford).

Agreed. Why not offer it up as complete update? (I'm wholly in favour of clearing out some of the dross by updating with Quality Entries)

Hi Phil, very interesting.
One comment I have is that some parts of it look more like notes than a piece of writing, eg.:
"At the time (1995?)" Was it 1995 or not? It would be good if you could find out.
and
"the largest organisation for amateur gardeners in the UK (>30,000 members)." Perhaps remove the bit in brackets and say something like "with more than 30,000 members".
It would be good if you mentioned some of the unusual varieties that most people mightn't be aware of.
Also, the link you give at the bottom is just for the Hampshire day - perhaps http://thewhitchurchweb.org/potatoday/potatodays.htm (from the same site) would be better.
There are also apple days, which do much the same thing for different varieties of apples. Perhaps that would be worth a mention in passing.
I see from the Whitchurch site that you're involved in this - good to see you adding your specialist knowlege!
Cheers,
KB.

Many thanks for the advice - it's my first attempt at a wikipedia type item - all comments gratefully recieved.
Apple days are a bit different, there you taste the harvest - PDays it's the seeds - I am planning a potato eating event next year - before you ask it's enough work orgainising one at a time without trying to both at once!

THe Potato Marketing Board has morphed into the Potato Council - it seems that they need councelling as well!
Lats yeat the organisation was voted the Most Useless Wango - it tries, with almost no resources to promote the commercial potato industry

Hi Phil
Let us know when you've made any changes.
If you'd like some inspiration, then I found a few similar entries which might be interesting:
A848595 - Tips on How to Grow Winter and Spring Vegetables
A11454491 - Beetroot - the Vegetable
A6257865 - The Garden Pea
There are many more vegetable and cultivation-related entries at C106.
Your entry doesn't have to be formal and starchy like Wikipedia, though - we like a bit of individuality on h2g2, so write it in a style that suits you! There's lots of information in the Writing-Guidelines.
If you need help with anything, then just post here and we'll try to point you in the right direction.

Don't think so; almost a one-stopper. Fleamarket?
