Naughty, naughty people. Peregrin found another site that had stolen our smileys earlier this year. I wonder what happened to that?

Many thanks for letting us know. We'll let the lawyers handle it.
By the way, *anyone* using copies of h2g2 graphics on their own site is breaking the law, even if they don't try to pretend that it's their own work. Just thought we'd point that out to anyone in this Conversation who's admitted to using h2g2 smileys on their own site...
(That means you, aka. Sorry, but can you please remove copies of our smileys from your personal website? That's illegal! )

Sure thing, though the disappearance of the smileys from the offending sites will be the best indicator of progress.

I've had a look at the two sites source and bravenet have renamed the smileys by removing the f_ from the front of the filename in perhaps some attempt to call the smileys their own but they are still definitely from h2g2 and the wildcat site have made no attempt to rename the files.

So the wildcat were just "Borrowing" them, using the URLs h2g2 provide (as in if they were to change the URLs [and the GUIDEML java, so that the guideml gadget <SMILEY> would still point to the new URLs] the smileys would just go [sort of, I'm using your images but you can change that if you must kinda thing) Like I was, but Bravenet have blatantly stolen them and renamed them to their own directories. I'll never use bravenet again!!
Well, actually...
I use it for quite a lot..
My easy to remember Web Address,
My Mini Poll,
My Password Gate used for the levels on the h2g2 game on my site,
My Guestbook,
My Message Forum,
My Java Chat,
and if it didn't have the bravenet style blue box at the top of all your pages I'd use MyBravenet Free web hosting too!
But as a mark of respect, I will NOT use the smileys they provide.. Maybe their cheesy ones they use in Guestbooks, but Not the h2g2 ones
(once geocities lets me back in, I'll remove all IMG links to h2g2 smileys that I couldn't get to earlier today, too! )

No, wisecat have downloaded the graphics to their server but they haven't made any attempt to cover their track by, say, renaming the files.
What you were doing, apparently if I read you right, is even worse. It is the height of bad manners to pull graphics from someone else's server since they have to pay for the bandwidth without ever seeing the benefit.

well, amy, the majority of h2g2 smileys have gone from my pages now anyway (i can't get in to geocities ) and you're obviously more technically minded about pcs and the like than me! (I don't really venture in to the likes of servers, bandwidth and whatnot...)
