that which has achieved something that no other object or concept humanity has ever contemplated has or will ever achieve. It can be two completely opposite things at the same time. It creates and destroys, it grows and shrinks, because it has no physical existance. It binds us all, the universe is god. Robert A. Heinlein kinda had it right when one of his characters said, "All that groks is god." Everything is god, and that's why god is god. If god was something within limit, by human standards, it would not exist, it would simply be another object. From early on, this has applied, and when some function of god is defined by science, that deity dies. Perhaps when we finish our work here, god itself will die in the sense of the word. smiley - winkeye Some religions choose to use god as one entity and their children have a very hard time understanding god. ("Mommy, if god loves us, why is there so much suffering in the world?") Others choose to split it up into two or more entities to make it easier for the human mind to understand. In these religions, the people feel closer to thier deity than in other religions where understanding is difficult.

If god made everything, knows everything etc.

There is only one paradigm large enough to understand and know and create the whole universe.

That is the universe itself. God is THE UNIVERSE.

The dilema that has bothered mankind though the ages is that God is conscious and for some reason or another is interested in us. The universe is VERY big and we are VERY small. Why shoud hesheit bother. isn't the universe a big, unthinking, impartial, non-parisan sort of thing? Why shoud hesheit care about us?

Assuming that things like intelligence, thinkingness, understanding, caringness, love etc are at a universal level akin to those same phenomena at our little terra firma level. But those things as we know them are the bibroducts of organic brains.

There ain't no ortganic brain big enough to think for the whole of the universe. Therefore atheists and agnostics like me are prone to believe (yes believe) that there ain't no god.

But, what if ... what if the ultimate bulding blocks.... the sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-quarks of the universe are not just unthinking matter and energy and time and space, but CONSCIOUSNESS, and THUSNESS, LOVE and HATE?

Maybe the simples way to understand the bigness and thusness, the trueness of the universe is simply

"THE UNIVERSE IS VERY BIG ... IT KNOWS WHAT TO DO ... IT DOES WHAT IT KNOWS TO DO ... IT LOVES DOING IT ... AND IT DOES IT EVERYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE"

Then our problem as little bitty humans isnt to ponder whether or not somthing very big can care about something very little (and let's face it friends, humans by and large don't give a s**t about things littler than themselves -- like ants, or atoms, or bacteria --, except in order to kill, them, vivisect them, bombard them etc. so we damned well better hope that GOD is NOT a just a much bigger and much more powerful version of ourselves.) No, our problem is to find the basics of thusness, trueness, etc. that the universe by its very being had to have made us out of.

Look for the truth within yourself. Man is not opposed to nature, he has simply forgotten the tru nature within himself.

Didn't the greeks have that kind of idea? air, water, earth, fire, ether? And each 'element' had corresponding human values associated with it.

Plus ca change...

Yeah. Its a pagan believe five elements. (Also the five points on the pentagram.) In European beliefs, they are Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit. In Asian, its like Wood, Metal, Fire, Water and something else.
