Yesterday was, once again the anniversary of the death of Terri "Zendevil", which took us all by surprise. Every year since, either I or Lil have posted a candle in the appropriate thread. Yesterday I was out and about and didn't go online. I have no idea how long one should go on commemorating these events, what is the netiquette for that?
My father died on 25 August 2009 and I always send my mother flowers around that time. Sometimes she gets the connection, sometimes not.
-------------
On another the Rossini Petite Messe Solonelle that we were working on is being performed four times. Tonight is the fourth and final concert (yesterday was the 3rd one which is why I wasn't online.) They are all quite far away and some even meant leaving as early as just after 2 pm to be there in time to warm up and try out the acoustics in the various churches for concerts at 6 or 7 pm. The performances have improved each time. It's a pity that with most choir projects, you spend 6 months preparing for just one single concert.
The last one where that happened, the concert was washed out in the end, being an outdoor performance. I met the conductor, who had come to hear one of the Rossini concerts and she said we're re-programming the Walpurgisnacht next year. The second item on that programme will need to be replaced, however, because we did actually manage to sing that before the rain came down. (That was Meeresstille/Glückliche Fahrt) So she's looking for a shorter (20 min?) piece.
I'm not sure if there's a theme they need to stick to. The connection between the Mendelssohn "Walpurgisnacht" and the Beethoven "Meeresstille.." was that the lyrics were both based on works by Goethe.
Any suggestions? All I could think of so far was Brahms Schicksalslied.

Oh dear, I've just read the first line of that journal post. I don't mean the anniversary took us by surprise, but rather her passing as such. Although we knew Terri was ill, she was such a strong presence that it was a shock when she died so suddenly.

Schubert's "Erlkönig" is also based on Goethe's words: http://youtu.be/JuG7Y6wiPL8

True - well done! But I think that's only for a single voice. And it's only 4 minutes long.
I mainly know it as a parody which is why I didn't think of it straight away. I also have an instrumental version played on 5 guitars which is gorgeous.
Here's the parody: https://youtu.be/H3wa077Uvac
The guitar version is not available on line but there may be others on the ol' choob.

Don't worry, there was no ambiguity about "the death of Terri "Zendevil", which took us all by surprise".
Why reprogramme a piece just because you managed to perform it before being washed out? People do pay to hear the same piece more than once...

Good question, but it's not my decision. Early days yet - maybe they'll come to that conclusion on their own.
The motto of the "Kultursommer" the year before last (which was when the original concert was planned) was "Mit allen Sinnen" - with all the senses. Which is rather a good motto as it can include absolutely anything, and also encourages people to include more than just concerts.
The motto for 2016 is "Der Sommer unseres Vergnügens" - "the summer of our delight". So that would call for something light and frivolous.

Does that include the sense of rain dripping down your back?

Joseph Haydn's "The Storm" might be the right length, and it would fit the circumstances of heavy rain.

It's about 8 minutes on Youtube, but it is a very good idea! Even a bit Tongue in Cheek.
