so, i'm an entry level, unqualified-for-any-high-paying-job 21 year-old. i had always taken it as given that, barring some kind of long, expensive education, or long, tedious work history, i would be unable to get any job even approaching good or well-compensated.
but, a large wireless service provider recently chose my city (Wichita, KS) as the site for its new call center. sounds bad, i know. no, i don't have to call people and ask them to buy a wireless phone and service from us. what i do have to do is answer calls about adding various services to a contract, troubleshooting, solving billing discrepancies, etc.. so, i'm now essentially an operator. there is great disparity among my coworkers, all being either my age and like myself, or older women that seem like the operators you normally talk to wjen you call the local landline phone company.
anyway, the pay is great, there a re good incentives, excellent benefits, and, most strangely of all, i don't hate every second of it. in fact, i find it interesting. my knowledge of wireless phones and networks has gone from zero to a great deal in a week, and it seems like a growth industry. with all my manuals and schematics for reference, i'm thinking of submitting a close-to-comprehensive (to date) entry on wireless phone technology.
