Got into work this morning to learn that not only is our former colleague with cancer unlikely to live out the week, but that an officer in the Essex police with whom I have always had the greatest of respect and friendship died of a heart attack on Friday.
I don't know how old Graham was, but I know he had kids and I'd guess that he can't have been more than 45. The world feels a little greyer and duller without Graham in it, this morning.

Hi! Och, the usual. Sitting in front of the machine trying to avoid w*rk for as long as possible, spending the money I've not yet made on trips to Vienna and generally farting about. Not that w*rk is difficult, just tedious. ... and it involves surfing the net so I more or less end up checking for updates for my anti virus programme like every ten minutes, keep track of the tech newsticker and h2g2 and wonder why it teakes so long to get any w*rk done around here.
Should I get a faster connection?

Kerr - voluntary severance? That doesn't sound too clever. On the other hand, if the offer is a good 'un take it and run, that's my advice.
az, well, yes, it is bad news. But in the perspective of events in Madrid, not the worst. Tell me, the newspapers here are saying that the attack and it's aftermath are what got rid of the Government on Sunday, but when i was out there last year, I seem to remember you telling me that the Government was massively unpopular anyway?

I said they were massively unpopular? Perhaps I meant in terms of the war. But they would have got in again for sure yesterday if not for the attacks on Thursday. It seems the conservatives were ousted as punishment for connecting Spain to Bush&Blair and thus making us an al-Qaida terrorist target. Though the possiblity it was Eta still hasn't been totally ruled out yet. Time will tell.

az, that seems a little short-sighted of the electorate if thats the sole issue, as I think we were potentially all targets of that particular organisation before the war with Iraq, but that's politics for you.
Tube, sara is my new significant other. Not a Goth, but definite Goth-like tendencies. Wears black a lot, that type of thing.

Hence the reason why the locals are happy to see you lot, I guess...That many people is always good for the local economy.
Not as if you are Visi-Goths or Ostro-Goths or anything. In my experience your modern Goth doesn't cause a lot of trouble.

Now I'll be the first to admit to owning a copy of 'a slight case of overbombing' and wearing a little too much black than is possibly good for me, but gave up on the goth thing years ago. Couldn't keep up the level of depression required, for one thing
