Though, please humor the american - what is the difference between say chav and pikey? We sorta amalgamate them all into the category 'trash' with 'trailer trash' being the slack-jawed grottier sort and 'white trash' having more aspirations towards at least appearing to have some money.

Pikey is a rather derogatory term for Gypsy, whereas Chav (as far as I know - this is the first time I ever heard the word) means trash, either white or trailer.
