Can I also recommend

...although it might have been you who linked me to that in the first place.

Gnomon - you've nothing to prove on this site to the people who matter. I say go ahead and be as rude as you like.

You were quite right, Gnomon. If you open that pdf, you'll find the name of the writer. Google his name and you'll find he's been trying to rewrite the laws of physics from scratch and without evidence.

I think pdfs are allowed, GB, as long as you make it clear it's a pdf that you're linking to. I've certainly linked to them before, and if you weant to link to a scientific paper you'll often find them in that format smiley - ok

I get the feeling that the author isn't going to reply anyway - it strikes me as yet another of those 'hit and run' scenarios, where a newbie fires off a pet theory into PR, and vanishes without any communication.

I just had a look at the linked-to pdf - hoo boy.

Gnomon - I think in this case you were perhaps too kind.

Is is the case that an object may appear in a link to have simply the suffix .pdf when in fact it has another .exe after it? And that those are the dangerous ones?

Yes, G, perhaps a little salutary rudeness was quite justified here.

Salutary rudeness - that is an excellent pairing of words and I shall certainly work in into a conversation at my first opportunity...

...even if it means being rude to make an opening for it smiley - ok

For some reason it reminds me of a song that begins, "Don't mind if I thump you when I talk, for I've something important to say."

and ends with, "You can feel the lumps upon your head, and think about what I said."

That's an old Leonard Cohen standard, isn't it?

Sounds more like Ivor Cutler to me.
