Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Jul 27, 2009
We're off on Saturday for a holiday in England and Wales. We're taking the ferry to Holyhead and then driving to Stratford-upon-Avon, calling in on Mrs G's aunt along the way. I calculated that it would add 7 minutes to our driving time to detour to her house.
We'll spend four nights at Stratford, staying in a little converted barn outside the town. It has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a living area with kitchenette, and beautiful views out over the fields. Last year we saw flocks of geese flying over the fields early in the morning.
We'll see a Shakespeare play (The Winter's Tale) while we're there. We'll also go to Warwick Castle (we have Tesco vouchers that'll get us in for one quarter price) and probably Hidcote Gardens.
Then we're going on to Cardiff (staying 2 nights), where we'll see the Doctor Who exhibition, and no doubt drink some coffee. Then we're going up to northwestern Wales, to a place called Dyffryn Adrudwy, where we'll stay four nights, and go for some walks in the hills.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Gnoman and les filles,
Have a wonderful holiday. Try and spend more than seven minutes with Mrs. G's aunt.!! I am sure she would enjoy your stimulating and kind company.
A winter's Tale had a wonderful review. There is a very fine Irish acturess whose first name is Sinead who plays the lead. I loved the interview they had with her the other day.
Enjoy your last few days in North Wales. I suppose that is near Shrewsbury. I lived there for eighteen months in 1994 and I was totally happy there. It is a lovely part of the world.
It is also near to LLWaz. If you see her please will you give her our love.
Have a wonderful holiday.
Christiane and Keith.

Have a great time, Gnomon
I love North Wales. If you've not been there before, then the mountain railways (Llanberis/Snowdon and Porthmadog/Blaenau Ffestiniog) are breathtaking. Book the Snowdon railway in advance if you can. Many take the railway up then walk down (but allow plenty of time).
I hope the weather's kind for you.

Thanks, Christiane. I was careful in my choice of words. The 7 minutes was the extra driving I will have to do. I doubt we will escape from the aunt in less than three hours and fifteen cups of tea. She is Irish!

Websailor said what I was going to say!
Have your camera handy, there's plenty in Stratford worth taking photos of - the Shakespeare properties, Harvard House etc etc.
The river is lovely too - you can rent boats for an hour which is worth doing, but I'd recommend doing it in Myton Park in Warwick instead because you can row up quite close to the river side of the Castle, which is gorgeous. There's also crazy golf in the park, and who doesn't love crazy golf?
Lots of great countryside nearby too.

We're back now. We had a great time, and managed to have seven and a half sunny days out of nine.
