Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Oct 1, 2007
My younger daughter, Iz, had her 13th birthday on Friday last. So now we have two teenaged daughters. Everyone tells me this is a recipe for trouble, but my two are very well-behaved. So far.
We took her and her friends bowling on Saturday, then back to our house for pizza and sweets. Mrs G cooked profiteroles, something she hadn't done for about 15 years, and they were delicious.
We're getting Iz a trampoline for a present, but it's on order and hasn't arrived yet.

Sounds like you have a fun family.
Y'know, I'm getting scarily good at guessing which conversations are from whose journals.

. . . profiteroles . . . hard to lose that weight, eh?
Congratulations to Iz. Maybe she'll let you have a go on the trampoline.

I think I'll have to lose the weight before I'm allowed on the trampoline.

Mrs R has been very wonderful about catering for my sudden lurch into veganism: she's practically vegan in sympathy with me, just adding the odd bit of fish or cheese for herself now and then. Of course when we go out it's carte blanche.
But if you want to lose weight and retain extreme tastiness I recommend the vegan diet. I lost half a stone over the last six months and I didn't even want to. I eat like a horse.

Congratulations to Iz - mine is a year behind! So, Gnomon, are you going to follow R'mans's advice and lose weight the vegan way?

Hi Christiane. Iz is just starting to learn French in school. She is certainly musical - she plays piano and recorder.

Well done on your two lovely daughters.
the last few days have been mind blowing. I have had wonderful news on my research which I did in south Africa. It has rejuvenated me - I hope the work I have to do does not blow me out of this wonderful world. !!. Eighty next year and I get tired so easily. So I must get energy from soemwhere.
Sincerely,
Christiane.

Christiane - I'm utterly in awe. 80 next year! And "Joie de Vivre" to spare!
What was your research about - I think I missed that. Please tell.

Hi Trillians's Child,
Thank you for your comment. We met ages ago when there was that Harvest Fair I believe.
My research was exceptionally dull It was on the control of the urbanisation of the African in South Africa by the "legal" expediant of apartheid legislation.
I realise now how emotionally draining it was.
As there was no housing built, all the attendant "perks" of urbansation.e.g. infrastructure such as the utilities; the availability of schools, hospitals, healthcare, roads, etc. etc. were not available to the urbanising African. The legal constraints of the apartheid-directed Nationalist government meant that all the four legally identified population groups i.e white, "coloured" Indian, and African, were obliged, by law, to live in their controlled areas.
However things started changing once that quite magnificent man President Nelson Mandela was released from prison.
I had been very ill in 1991 and had lost my darling husband in 1986. As I had no family support in South Africa, I decided to come to England, with my son (who had a chronic mental illness) where my mother and my sister were living. Then my health deteriorated even further. Anyway, I am happy to be able to tell you that I appear to have experienced a truly miraculous improvement in my health. I am hoping to be able to complete all my "work in progress" before I give up the ghost finally and completely!!.
My guiding light is Bertrand Russell who wrote his opus magnum Principia Mathematica when he was 80!!
With affection

Sorry to disillusion you about your guiding light, but Russell was about 40 when the three volumes of Principia Mathematica were published. He did publish lots of things after reaching the age of 80, but not of the same quality . . .
. . . which all just goes to show that you can be well guided by a light of your own invention!

Oh dear, man on a bike not sitting, not standing, just lying.
I wonder how many other actions/events I am guided by which exist only in my mind!!
thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I hope that you wrote to encourage me to continue it!!.
Sincerely,
radiantjoiedevivre
