154066, if I may call you that *smiley - winkeye*,

I'm in wearing my Scout's hat, at present, and have given this article a once over. I'm a little bit tired and grumpy at present due to too much Olympic-watching, so please forgive me if the suggestions I make here come off as a little terse...smiley - smiley

This is an entry which needs to be made, if only because the album itself is so significant, and I'd like to recommend it - before I can do so, however, some more information has to be added (including the album's FULL name...smiley - tongueout). As it stands, your article is not much more than a track list with some recording dates. WHY was the record so significant? The fact that it was one of the first truly 'studio-produced' records, for example? The fact that it was one of the first in that turbulent historical period to investigate the consequences of drug-taking in any detail whatsoever? The fact that it marked the shift of the Beatles from what they'd previously been doing to a new plane of musical sophistication? All of these things have to be discussed in this context before the article could be considered 'complete', but what's there is the basis on which such a finished article could be constructed if you're willing to have a go.

All of these things, too, are dependent for their relevance on whether or not there's already a 'Sergeant Pepper' entry already in the 'Guide, which I haven't checked!

What can you do to make it better?

Hey 154066! Take all this in the best possible light. smiley - smiley

There is no article about Sgt Peppers, so this is a much needed one, but I think you need to expand it a lot. In the article about the Beatles, there is this paragraph:

"It was from out of their 'studio only' decision, that one of themost ground-breaking rock albums of all time was released: Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Often considered to be one of the greatest ever concept albums, Sgt Pepper brought us songs like 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', 'A Day in the Life', 'A Little Help from my Friends', and, of course, the title track."

This, in itself, says almost more then your article.

You could talk about even such trivial things as the fact that the album was the first not to include space betweent the songs, the first to include the lyrics, and included Sgt. Peppers cut-outs. And they're just the facts. Just like Hypo said, you need to dicuss the implications and significance of the album. That album is one of the most influential records of all time and deserves a more detailed article. But it'll be great when it's finished. smiley - smiley

Gnomon - time to move on

The cover of Sgt Pepper was almost signicant as the music in it. It established the "flower power" style of modern pop.

Was it Sgt Pepper that had the cryptic voice on the final groove, positioned so that if your autoreject mechanism wasn't working, it would just keep playing and playing?

I think the clucking hen changed into a trumpet sound, not an electric guitar.

Not only was Sgt Pepper voted to be among the top 10 best albums of all time, but in the same poll was voted one of the top 10 worst albums of all time.

I agree that there needs to be an article on Sgt. Peppers, and this is a good start.
(And yes, it was the one with the noises at the end smiley - winkeye)
But I agree that it really needs to say a bit more, and perhaps be spaced out a bit more to make it easier to read. If you would like help getting to know GuideML, we'd be happy to help. smiley - smiley

A start would be to write before each paragraph and afterwards, so that if I was writing this post in GuideML I'd write:

Hope this helps. smiley - smiley

There seems to be general agreement that we want an article about this subject, and you've given us a start, but that there's a lot which would need to be added to call it finished.

The best place to achieve this is probably the Writing Workshop, where others can come and add their voices. Any seconders?

h2g2 Musicians Guild

The original Researcher hasn't posted at h2g2 since late September.

I've posted a link to the entry and to this thread at the Musicians Guild page. I'm hoping that one of the MuGs will want to pick up the torch on this one.

Editorial Note: This Conversation has been moved to the new 'Flea Market' Forum.

This is where we move any Peer Review, Writing Workshop or Alternative Writing Workshop Conversations where the original author has *not* posted to h2g2 for three months. This prevents the active Review Forums from clogging up with dormant entries, but in the Flea Market they can be picked up by others and polished off.
