I haven't noticed the New Yorkers so much, but I too have noted the presence of many Brits. I'm from Virginia myself, but then I went to the UK earlier this summer so perhaps I don't count....

Please, *please* don't mention the ozylympics. As a Melburnian, I have a healthy dislike of anything to do with Sydney, and especially the way they've been trumpeting how wonderful the games are. Talk about overloaded hype! In the entire length of the games there'll be maybe 4-5 events that are even half-way interesting, and does that make up for all the crap that's gone on surrounding them? Not to mention what the international media (and the Black Panthers) are going to make of our human rights record, a situation that has been compounded by the pathetic arch-conservative government we have in place here at the moment.
Other than that, everything's just peachy. How yourself?

I just love it when somene double posts the same message, it's this double click thing that microsoft has us into. It's like we twitch or something. Black Panthers! Human rights do go on. is everyone protesting everything. Right now I have a protestor standing over my shoulder, protesting that I'm on the net talking with others from around the world. why do you consider your govt. arch conservative right now? We are going to pull off another Democratic win here in the states. I would really go rolly over if we open up the borders to Mexico. clinton had a little tete a tete discussing the issue with
Vncente Fox the upcoming Pres in Mexico. Not exactly what Gore wanted him to get together and agree to talk about, since Clinton will leave office before they could do anything and Gore will be left holding the diplomatic bag.

Actually, in my case I have about 8 windows open, so I pressed the post button, checked another window, came back and the post screen was still there, so I automatically pressed the post button again, catching myself just too late...
The Black Panthers thing is just a rumour, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised....they're supposed to have been secretly filming the conditions in which some Aboriginal people in Australia live, which can be pretty ordinary. Ironically, the worst conditions are where they have been given houses and the like to live in, which they don't want to do and often end up living in the front yard.....of course this presents an identifiable picture of 'urban squalor' which is actually removed from the real problems Aboriginies face....
The other major human rights issue here recently was rights in a detention centre for illegal boat people. As an example of our governments handling of such issues, the minister responsible is going to hold an inquiry into security at the sight, rather than into the conditions which led these people to riot.....not to mention (though I will ) the government refuses to even apologose for something called the 'stolen generation', where aboriginal children were on occasion forcibly removed from their parents and sent to live with white parents - this happened 60-70 years ago, but the current government wont even apologise......

Everywhere, especially asian countries but from Europe as well, generally seeking political asylum. A bit like Mexicans crossing the border, I guess.

I just love it when Vienna calls... I was wondering if you were aware or if I am confused, could you clear this rumor up for me. There was a fantastic Pop-singer from vienna, I believe, called Falco...
Is he still alive and well, I read somewhere he passed on to the great orchestra in the sky, by driving off a cliff somewhere in the Dominican Republic. Please get back to me on this as I have been grieving ever since and am planning to visit the island one day and would like to look up the cliff to pay my last respects.

you are right!falco was from vienna!and you are right, falco was one of the best pop singer in the world!!(did you know, he is called the inventor of german rap.not only this, he had several weeks "amadeus" no. 1 in the us charts!)
unfortunately he died, i think 2 years ago, in the dominican rep.
and it was not that heroic like driving off a cliff...but his jeep was in the way of a public transport bus, which decided not be delayed and kept going...(the last one is not true, for i think buses in the dom.rep. do not take care of delays...)
sadly this happens some days before his new album was released!
he keeps living in all of us...

thanks for keeping his memory alive for me, I cut the small article out that I found in the newspaper, so moved I was by his passing. It is lost in the fray. I just wanted to see if my memory served me correctly.
How was his last album? what was the name of it?

like the 2 albums before it was not very good...
it was more the myth of is early albums, than the newer ones, which kept him famous.
there was one sentence in the lyrics of the single release of his last album, saying: do i finally have to die ,just to live...strange however...

A warm hallo from South Africa. Any others from my country on h2g2? Anyways just ask if you wanna know something about the Southern Hemisphere. As for me, my native language is Afrikaans. Ek is seker jy verstaan geen snars daarvan nie, maar ek mag verkeerd wees. Aussi, je parle un peu français. Pas parfait, mais on peut essayer. Vous devez m'assister! Ich verstehe auch ein bisschen Deutsch. Nna ke bolela SeSotho. Tshwarêlo! I shouldn't show off like that! Seriously, the only languages I can use well are Afrikaans and English. But I am interested in other languages, cultures, countries.
Can you actually travel astrally? If so, drop in any time. As for me, I've tried, but as a geomancer I'm too solidly grounded.
