I was happy to find your advise on inserting a picture, but I can't make it work. When I type all I end up with in the finished product is " but no picture. Do I need to be in html mode to do all this?

Yes you do need to be in html mode to do it (as far as I can figure out). as an example, my picture is is xyparty.jpg, so i include and that seems to display fine when using html mode.

I tried both of those suggestions. What I get techno babble when I do the cut and paste drill from the cut and paste code and this message for img src jabber wokky: You are unable to access this file directly because we do not allow files to be served to other sites. As a courtesy, we will allow you to retrieve the file by clicking here.
What does this mean? You can't do that, but we'll let you do that anyway? Huh?

thanks Xyroth, Ill try to reach you again by e-mail. Though probably not until monday when I get on my ADSl's arse. Probably not their fault, I've been trying out Netscape as my browser to avoid any virusus, it must be the obsessive compulsive in me. Microsoft Internet Explorer is all embedded and hooked up inside this Mac so I'm going to give in and call myself licked. Somebody ought to sue that Bill Gates fellow. Where do I sign up? I've been researching "The Mozart Effect" got any good leads for me. It harmonizes with the bio-feedback techniques you talk about on your site.

The picture is on my icq webpage. I have some in photoworks.com also, but one challenge at a time is the most multitasking I can handle.

Hummm. Maybe h2g2 finds the picture in icq blatantly offensive...? It's a photograph of a pair of cockroaches that I painted with sort of an easter egg motif when I was trying to densensitize my roommate to the unwelcome critters with which we shared our rented hovel.
mozart effect
xyroth Posted Sep 3, 2000
I don't know where you would find anything about it, but as far as I remember, the point of it was that if you listened to mozart when trying to learn something, it made it a little bit easier to learn, like adding a few IQ points for that time.
However, it is only a tempory effect, and like any shortcuts, if you don't practice what you have learned, you rapidly forget it again. The real key to remembering things is to learn them well, and then cross link them with lots of other things so that any time that you remember one of them, it exercises the links to all of the other connected things. I hope this helps. PS there is a devise called the renshaw tachistoscope that acheives even better effects than the mozart effect, but because you learn even more in a short time, you are even more likely to forget the stuff that you have leared if you don't use it.

I've already found several article on The Mozart Effect and on-going reseach grant was given to Ms. Raucher to go to Oskosh, Wisc. University and compare the effect of computer keyboard learning vs piano keyboard learning and so far she and some Dr. Shaw, have noted that the musical keyboard has confirmed their original findings of increased temporal spacial discrimination, and it's application for increased ability in learning of sciences and mathmatics. I will look into the last little gizmo you referred to above. Always a pleasure to speak with you my muse. I tried again to send my foto to your ideas e-mail location, but like I said Netscape sent me a non-delivered message on my last attempt to e-mail you.

hosting piccies
xyroth Posted Sep 7, 2000
If you need somewhere to host your piccies until you get yourself a good web supplier, I will let you use 5 mb of space on my site, if they are similarly sized to the last one you sent me. (and by you expression, it makes me realize that it's too long since I last had a holiday. The only problem with me hosting the piccies, is that I use an 8.3 filename format so that everyone can view them. But send me the piccies, and I will upload them to my site and you can then link to them.
If you want to learn html, then my site is written so that anyone can read it, and if you ignore the meta tags, that is fairly minimal html that works perfectly well.
As I say if you want me to host the photos then send them to me with an 8.3 filename, and I will put them on my site within a few days, then you can link to them no problem.

There two ways of including pictures: HTML or GuideML, with either
Description (in GuideML)
or
(in HTML) as the syntax.
But the main thing is: You must tell H2G2 to INTERPRET the code, by selecting the proper button on the bottom of your "edit" page. As I see it, you have selected "plain text", which of course puts H2G2 in the plain-text mode, with only highlighting those "http"-sequences. Choose HTML or GuideML mode, and it should work. Of course, then you have to decorate the whole page with those tag thingies.
I also encountered refusal/allowance to retrieve the roach picture, but my mistake was to have a surplus ">" in the link code.
