however it is not all bad news.

microsoft themselves have said that their success will be inversely proportional to open source.

Banks have realised that when microsoft has only 85% of the browser market, they cannot avoid making their software work with standards complient browsers.

Linux is increasing both its market share within specific markets, and preventing MS domination of new markets by providing a better alternative.

there is also a suffecient bredth of free software that something like a third of all users of computers need never be forced to use microsoft again.
