Please be gentle with me - It's my first time! I would like some feedback on this article though. I have only been registered a week and haven't looked into GuideML, so the entry is in text only. Does this count against me? Hope you like it. It was enjoyable to write.

Excellent!

IMHO that article is perfect for the guide.
Don't change a thing.

Re: GuideML - don't worry too much, the Sub-editors will be able sort all that out for you. The main thing is that an entry is well written, clearly set out, and well researched. This saves the Editors alot of time when it comes to editing. I personally can't see why an Editor would have to edit this at all.

Thanks everyone - bless you all. That's been a boost to my confidence. Do editors visit this forum and pick up what they like? Otherwise what is the next stage? Thanks again.

Sub-Editors do visit this page (I am a sub-ed), but the next step is the Scouts come and pick out the ones they think should be put in the Guide. These then get sent to the sub-eds and edited, as far as I can work out this is how it works smiley - smiley

Crescent is spot on.

I am a scout (or will be when it all gets going) and as such will hang around in the dark & dusty corners of h2g2 and the peer review page, looking for goodies. Those that catch the scouts eyes will be presented for peer review here, and then submitted to the eds & sub-eds for them to weave their magic on.

As I understand it, this wont happen until the back-log of entries from the previous system has been whittled down (otherwise the eds will work themselves to death).

From what I can gather, scouts will take it in turns to submit their choices. Those choices will be influenced by what has been said by whoever wants to have their say. So even though it all looks quite complicated on the surface, its actually quite groovy and surprisingly democratic. Anyone can volunteer to be a scout, too.

Does that make sense? I have a feeling I was rambling a bit.

If only all entries were this comprehensive! This, to me, perfectly demonstrates the whole raison d'etre of the guide: what may seem like one man's trivia is, potentially, another's vital information, and so going into such well-researched detail on an ostensibly-mundane subject ensures that anyone desperate for that particular little nugget about jet washes and so forth is well-served.

Good entry; it gets my vote. smiley - smiley

Good news JHP: I recommended this article for the Edited Guide on Tuesday, and it was accepted. You'll be glad to know that it has now gone into the Editorial Process for future inclusion in the Edited Guide. When it does get into the Edited Guide, we will email to let you know, but please bear in mind it can take a while for entries to go through the sub-editing system.

Congratulations!

Many thanks, I'm really chuffed. I haven't had much time since to write anything else, but will when inspiration hits.

Thanks again!

Editorial note: This thread has been moved off the Peer Review page to the entry's own forums, as it has now been accepted for editing.
