Certainly looked like it to me, but space weather page doesn't say anything about any due todaysmiley - erm

Pretty sure it wasn't distant lighting- it had the classic changing rays (obscured by the clouds a bit),a nd it faded ina nd out of view for about an hour. See what you think.

Aurora

This gave me a fright when it appeared on my conversation list. smiley - tongueout

Is it just a trick of the light that makes it look like the lights are below cloud level? If it was an Aurora I'm very, very jealous. smiley - smiley

Well, it looked and behaved in a similar way to the last aurora i snapped a couple of years back. And that was a well documented one that could be seen as far south as London! (and further i think)

But no mention of it on any space pages yet, and they can usually predict aurora a few hours in advance. Oh well will look out for any reports tomorrow.

Hi Winnoch2

Was it cloudy or clear? Were you facing north?

There was broken cloud cover. Direction i'm not sure of- haven't been here long enough to observe where the sun rises! Will get back to you on that.
